It goes to show the wonders of the Internet and YouTube. With the help of technology and a little quick thinking on my own, I was able to cut through the junk and figure out one of the singing talents all by myself.

宋祖英的歌喉的确甜美，但她在此是用普通话京腔唱的，比起当年傅锦华唱的柳州民歌原声似乎是差了那么一点点。差在哪儿呢？ 我用拼音注给你听听，你说有没有道理：
唱山歌 （"歌"发音 "guo", not "ge" )
这边唱来那边和 ("huo", not "he" )
山歌好比春江水啊
哪怕滩险湾又多 ("duo" here, of course)

谢谢你. 我本也是以为现今听到的歌曲大体无甚可取之处, 所以一再在此向大家询问究竟. 得知有 宋祖英 这样的民歌歌手后很高兴.
I know exactly what you mean about singing this song with a southern accent, and how 傅锦华's singing was more authentic and superior. I totally agree. 大多情况下歌曲还是要用当地风味唱. 即便是再好的歌手, 唱异族的歌曲也很难达到理想. 苛求地讲来, 宋祖英 唱 America the Beautiful 还是不太对味 IMO.
说来惭愧了. 我没看过"刘三姐", 以前也没听过这首歌. 六一年"刘三姐" 问世, I was probably still in the process of catching up on the Chinese language. So I really thought this was something new , never expecting it to be material that hails back to the 60's. Turns out the composer is still 雷振邦
