Kaynak metin - Fransızca Ce livre retrace la vie de deux amies: celle qui écrit la lettre, c’est Ramatoulaye. Celle à qui ont écrit, c’est Aïssatou. A travers leurs deux vies que raconte celle qui écrit, c’est la sensibilité de deux femmes qui n’ont pas le même tempérament qui se dessine, c’est à la fois et surtout la peinture de la société sénégalaise. Cette femme ayant des enfants, il est normal qu’elle en parle. Cela débouche aussi sur la description de la jeunesse actuelle, des problèmes qui se posent à elle et aux mères éducatrices. Mais des femmes âgées sont représentées également dans ce roman. C’est la troisième génération de femmes. Leurs caractères et leurs mentalités se dessinent. Il y a notamment dans le récit une dame, la belle-mère du héros principal du roman. Cette dame pour entrer dans une certaine catégorie de femmes, les femmes aux bracelets lourds, n’hésite pas à mettre fin aux études de sa jeune fille et à la donner en mariage à un homme qui pourrait être son père. Il y a également Tante Nabou qui représente la femme traditionnelle, attachée à la vérité ancienne et qui défend farouchement son sang contre l’apport du sang d’une bijoutière ou castée. Il y a aussi une autre femme, Fatoumata qui est griote et qui représente une autre catégorie de femmes. En un mot, il y a dans ce roman un peu de tout ce qui intéresse de près ou de loin, à l’heure actuelle, nos sociétés en général, les femmes en particulier. C’est ce qui a fait dire à certains que ce livre ferait date dans l’histoire de la littérature africaine. Nous avons rencontré Mariama Bâ pour ces raisons. Nous avons parlé avec elle de sa vie, de ses idées et de son oeuvre.
Qui êtes-vous, Mariama Bâ?
Je suis une sénégalaise. Mon père fut le premier ministre de la santé de la Loi-Cadre. Je suis orpheline de mère. J’ai été élevée par ma grand-mère. Mais grâce à mon père et à la vision juste qu’il avait eu de l’avenir, j’ai été à l’école, malgré mes grands-parents qui étaient des traditionalistes. Ma maison familiale est située à l’ancienne route des Abattoirs municipaux de Dakar qui porte actuellement le nom d’un conseiller municipal, Armand Angrand. Elle fait face au service d’hygène. Ce bâtiment montre par sa structure l’aisance de mes grands-parents. Mon grand-père est un lébou de Dakar. Dans notre concession familiale, il y a une grande mosquée en dur où s’assemble une foule à chaque heure de prière. Normalement, j’aurais dû grandir dans ce milieu familial, sans connaître l’école, avec l’éducation traditionnelle qui comprend l’initiation à des rites. Je devais savoir faire la cuisine, la vaisselle, piler le mil, transformer la farine en couscous. Je devais savoir laver le linge, repasser les grands-boubous et chuter le moment venu, avec ou sans mon consentement dans une autre famille, chez un mari.
Mais vous avez été tout de même à l’école. Quelle formation avez-vous reçue?
J’ai fait les classes primaires à l’actuelle école Berthe Maubert anciennement dénommée Ecole des Filles. En ce temps-là, après le certificat d’études primaires élémentaires, on faisait une classe préparatoire pour les grands examens. Le choix n’était pas vraiment large. Les bonnes élèves étaient orientées vers le concours de l’Ecole Normale des jeunes filles de Rufisque. Les élèves les plus âgées allaient à l’Ecole des Sages-Femmes. Les autres apprenaient la dactylographie pour être des secrétaires, par une formation accélérée. Je n’ai pas choisi d’aller à l’Ecole Normale des jeunes filles de Rufisque. J’avais choisi d’être secrétaire. J’avais à cette époque 14 ans. L’importance du choix d’un métier ne m’apparaissait pas du tout. C’est la directrice de l’école des filles qui est venue me retirer du groupe des élèves du secrétariat. Elle me dit: « Tout le monde mais pas toi. Tu es intelligente. Tu as des dons. Même si tu ne veux pas y aller, tu vas préparer le concours d’entrée à l’Ecole Normale des jeunes filles de Rufisque pour le renom de notre école. » C’est pour le renom de notre école donc que j’avais préparé ce concours. A mon admission mes grands-parents ont voulu s’opposer à mon entrée à cette école. Un de mes oncles disait: « Pour les études d’une fille, le certificat d’études, ça suffit largement. Halte-là. »Il a fallu vraiment le dynamisme de notre directrice Mme Maubert pour arracher le consentement de ma famille, mon père étant absent, affecté à Niamey. Le concours de l’Ecole Normale des jeunes filles de Rufisque était organisé à l’échelon de l’ex Afrique Occidentale Française. J’avais la chance de sortir cette année-là, première de l’ex-AOF. Mme Legoff, directrice de l’école des jeunes filles de Rufisque, était une femme de tête. Mais j’insiste sur le fait qu’elle était aussi une femme de coeur. C’est de son coeur qu’est né ce lien qui me relie à elle. Ce lien m’a suivi toute ma vie. Ce n’est pas un sentiment qui m’est spécial. C’est le sentiment de toutes les filles qui ont vécu à Rufisque. Mme Legoff avait une vision juste de l’avenir de l’Afrique. Son éducation reposait sur les principes que nous entendons prôner aujour’hui: « enracinement et ouverture. Enracinement dans nos valeurs traditionnelles propres, dans ce que nous avons de bien et de beau, et ouverture aux autres cultures, à la culture universelle. » C’est ainsi qu’elle était arrivée à nous faire oublier que nous étions de colonies différentes. Nous avons noué des amitiés par affinités et par tempérament sans penser que telle était guinéenne, telle dahoméenne et telle autre ivoirienne; ce qui a créé entre nous un vrai brassage de races et de moeurs. Cela nous a appris à tenir compte d’autrui, à faire taire nos ressentiments. Un esprit de tolérance!
Çeviri - Arapça يروي الكتاب حياة صديقتين: إحداهما تكتبُ الرّسالة، راماتولاي. والأخرى التي ستستقبلها، عائشتو. من خلال حياتيهما التي ترويها راماتولاي، نرى حساسيّة امرأتين بمزاج مختلف، عبر لوحةٍ أصيلة تمثّل المجتمع السّنغالي. تتحدّث هذه المرأة عن أطفالها، وعن وصفٍ للجيل الحاليّ آنذاك من الشّباب، وعن كثير من مشاكل الأمّهات أثناء تنشئتهنّ وتربيتهن للأطفال. تحدّثت الرّواية أيضا عن شخصيّات من جيل النّساء الأكبر سنا، عن طابعهنّ وعقليتهنّ. هُناك حديثٌ عن سيّدة راقية، حماة بطلة الرّواية، والتي تحاول التّأقلم مع إحدى طبقات النّساء، ذوات الأساور الثّقيلة؛ إلى أن تضطرّ إلى منع ابنتها من إكمال دراستها، وتزويجها إلى رجلٍ في سنّ والدها. وهُناك أيضًا العمّة نابو، نموذج المرأة التقليدية المخلصة لأصولها التي تحارب لتحول دون اختلاط الدّماء الأصيلة بدم صائغ أو رجلٍ من طبقةٍ أدنى. باختصار، هناك كلّ ما يمكن ما له صلةٌ بنا جميعا، وبالنّساء خاصّة في مجتمعاتنا الحاضرة. وهذا ما جعل البعض يعتبرُ هذه الرّواية خطّا فارقًا في تاريخ الأدب الأفريقيّ. وقد اجتمعنا بمارياما با من أجل هذه الأسباب، التي حدّثتنا عن حياتها، عن أفكارها، وعن عملها.
– مارياما با، عرّفينا بنفسك.
– أنا سنغاليّة. كان أبي أوّل وزير للصّحة خلال فترة قانون « لوا كادر – Loi Cadre »1. نشأت يتيمة الأمّ، وتولّت جدّتي مهمّة تربيتي. وبفضل والدي ورؤيته الاستثنائية للمستقبل، التحقت بالمدرسة رغم معارضة أجدادي التّقليديين. كان منزلنا العائليّ يقع في شارع المذبح البلديّ بدكّار، والذي يحمل حاليا اسم نائب بلديّ، أرمان أونغران، مواجها لمبنى خدمة النّظافة والصّحة. كانت بناية المنزل دليلا على مستوى رغد العيش الذي تمتّع به أجدادي. ينحدر جدّي من مجموعة “الليبو2” العرقية في دكار. ضمن ملكيتنا العائلية، كان يوجد مسجدٌ كبير تجتمع فيه حشود كثيرة في كل وقت صلاة. كان يفترض بي أن أنشأ في هذا الوسط العائلي الضيّق، دون أن أتردد على المدرسة، وأتلقى تعليما تقليديا يشمل بعض المبادئ الطقوسية. كان عليّ أن أتعلم الطبخ والتنظيف، طحن الذّرة البيضاء، وتحويل الدقيق إلى كسكس. كما كنت سأقضي أيّامي في غسل الملابس وكيّ العباءات الطويلة، وانتظار اليوم الموعود الذي سأدخل فيه، برضاي أو بدونه، على عائلة أخرى، عند زوج.
– لكنّك التحقتِ بالمدرسة على أيّة حال. ما هو نوعُ التّكوين الذي تلقيّته؟
– التحقتُ بالمدرسة الابتدائية “بيرث موبار” الحاليّة، التي كانت تُدعى “مدرسة الفتيات”. حينها، وبعد نيل شهادة التعليم الابتدائي، كان يتوجّب علينا دخول أقسام تحضيرية للاستعداد للامتحانات العليا. لم يكن لديّ الخيار حقّا، إذ كانت التّلميذات المتفوّقات عادة ما يُوجّهن نحو مسابقات المدارس العليا للفتيات في روفسك، بينما تتوجّه الفتيات الأكبر سنّا نحو مدارس تكوين القابلات. أمّا الأخريات، فكُنّ ينضممن إلى دورات تدريبية مكثّفة لتعلّم الطّباعة على الآلة الكاتبة وأعمال أمانة المكاتب. في عمر الرّابعة عشرة حينها، لم أختر أن أدخل المدرسة العليا، كنتُ أودّ أن أصبح أمينة مكتب. لم أكن أولي أيّ اهتمام لاختيار مهنة المستقبل. لقد كانت مديرة مدرسة الفتيات من انتشلني من بين صفّ أمانة المكاتب، وهي تقول: «فليدرس الجميع ذلك إن شاؤوا، ولكن ليس أنتِ ! أنت ذكيّة وتمتلكين موهبة. حتّى وإن كنت لا تريدين دخول المدرسة العليا، فلتحضّري للمسابقة من أجل اعتبار مدرستنا فقط.» بالفعل، لم أجتز المسابقة إلّا من أجل اعتبار مدرسة الفتيات. وحين تمّ قبولي هُناك، اعترض جدّاي، وقال أحد أعمامي: «شهادة التعليم الابتدائيّ كافيةٌ جدّا من أجل فتاة، توقّفي هنا !». استلزم الأمر تدخّل المديرة، السّيدة موبار، لأتمكّن من تغيير رأي عائلتي، وذلك حين غاب أبي وتمّ تحويله إلى نيامي. كنتُ محظوظةً للغاية، إذ حصلتُ على المرتبة الأولى في المسابقة على مستوى غرب أفريقيا الفرنسي3 سابقًا. وهناك، تعرّفت على السّيدة لوغوف، مديرة المدرسة، سيّدة عقل وتدبير، وامرأة مليئة بالحبّ والعطف. لقد أصّل حبّها فيّ رابطًا عميقا معها، كما فعل مع كلّ الفتيات الأخريات في مدرسة روفسك.
كان للسّيدة لوغوف رؤية مستقبلية لأفريقيا، وارتكز تعليهما على القيم التي يُنادى بها اليوم: “الأصالة والمعاصرة. أن نؤصّل لقيمنا التّقليدية الخاصّة بنا، ولكلّ ما هو جميلٌ عندنا، وأن ننفتح على كلّ الآخرين المختلفين”. لقد تمّكنا حينئذٍ من تجاوز عقدتنا القديمة: الشّعور بوطأة الاستعمار؛ وأقمنا روابط صداقة قويّة بين الغينيّة والدّاهومية4 والإيفواريّة، وهذا ما أوجد بيننا مزيجا متجانسا من الأعراق والعادات، وعلّمنا أن نحفظ للآخر اعتباره دون ضغينة. فعلا ! لقد تعلّمنا التّسامح والانفتاح.

America today is engaged in a deep and broad philosophical/ethical debate unlike anything in our history. It’s a debate about what is the common good in the midst of a pandemic.
We may not be framing it as such, but every one of the unprecedented, vastly consequential, health and economic measures that state, local and federal officials have taken up to now — some engendering criticism, some applause — reflects an unarticulated ethical position about how we as individuals, communities and a nation define what is best for the most people. That is, how do we maximize the common good in the least heartless way.
This debate is being expressed through language that was wholly unfamiliar to most of us just two weeks ago — like epidemic statistics and vernacular and the differing impacts on rich and poor of a $2 trillion fiscal stimulus devised almost overnight. If all of that is not vexing enough, we also have a president who uses his wide-reaching bully pulpit to whipsaw us between optimism and pessimism based on his “gut” feelings.
To help surface this unarticulated ethical debate — so maybe we can have it more productively — I decided to call Harvard political philosopher Michael Sandel. Sandel’s lectures on justice have been devoured by millions of students around the world, and he is just finishing a book on why we’ve lost sight of the common good. (Disclosure: He is a friend of many years and we have taught together.)

ولقد أصبح هذا الجدل يُطرح ويناقشُ بلغةٍ غريبة، لم تكن مألوفة لمعظمنا قبل أسبوعين، إحصاءاتُ الوباء، الفروقات الإقليمية، واختلاف تأثير التّحفيزات الماليّة* التي قد تبلغ تريلوني دولار بين ليلةٍ وضحاها على كلّ من الأغنياء والفقراء. وإن لم يكن كلّ هذا مزعجًا بما يكفي، فلدينا رئيسٌ يستخدم منبره “المتنمّر” على أوسع نطاق، ليؤرجحنا بين التّفاؤل والتّشاؤم، بناءً على مشاعره الغريزيّة.

Translation matters. It affects the reader’s response to a literary piece. But literary translation is not an easy endeavour.
Literary translation involves translating dramatic and creative poetry and prose into other languages, and it is a hugely important task. It helps to shape a reader’s understanding of the world, their history, philosophy, politics, and more.
So, exactly why is literary translation such a tough task?
Why is literary translation difficult?
Literary translation is significantly different from any other kind of translation. Just the volume of the texts sets this translation endeavour apart. Tackling a piece that runs in the region of hundreds of thousands of words is not an easy task, nor is attempting to recreate poetry in another language without losing the magnificence of the source text.
One of the biggest challenges in this arena of literary translation is the balance to remain true to the original work while creating an entirely unique piece that evokes the same responses as the original piece. Ask any literary translator, and they’re sure to tell you that even a single word can be a bother. The author has chosen a particular word for a particular reason, so it’s up to the translator to ensure it’s rightfully delivered in the target language. But, what happens there is no direct translation or even several options with different meanings?
Literary translation’s most common mistakes?
When it comes to literary translation, it’s important to capture the feeling and emotion, as well as the meaning of the piece of work. It can be tough trying to translate a book accurately without losing the soul of the book.
Here are 7 mistakes literary translators often make and how to avoid them.
Literal translations
Translating a script word for word is almost sure to change the meaning of the translation from the original.
Exaggerating the meaning of words
An effective translation shouldn’t over-emphasize any word so that it alters the intended meaning.
Depending too much on translation programs
Software programs can’t always determine context or recognize tones or determine emotional states.
Misunderstanding the context of a word
If the translator misunderstands the context that a word is used in, he will translate it differently which can alter the original meaning.
Getting the tone wrong
It is most times very difficult to accurately convey the tone used in the source text as it can change constantly.
Ignoring cultural differences
Translating without considering cultural differences can result in uncomfortable or even offensive situations.
Over-confidence
Regardless of the skills and abilities possessed mistakes are always possible even among the best. Not having work proofread is not only over-confident but also foolish.
Çeviri - Arapça هل كنتَ تعلمُ مِن قبلُ أنّ روايةَ “بينوكيو” (Pinocchio) المؤلَّفة من طرف “كارلو كولودي” (Carlo Collodi) باللّغة الإيطاليّة قد تُرجِمت إلى مائتين وستين (260) لغة، وهو رقم هائل – إذا استثنينا ترجمات الإنجيل وباقي الكتب الدّينية -، وقد حُوِّلت إلى عدّة نسخٍ من أفلام سينمائيّة وعروض مسرحيَّة.
تبدو ترجمة روايةٍ من مثلِ “بينوكيو” عمليّة مُمتعة، وفي الواقع تكتسي التّرجمة الأدبية – بكلِّ ما تشمله من شعر ونصوص نثرية سردية وإبداعيّة – أهمّية بالغة بقدر ما تُؤثِّر على استجابة القارئ للقطعة الأدبيّة؛ وتساعد في تشكيل فهمه للعالم والتّاريخ والفلسفة والسّياسة. إلاَّ أنّها ليست سهلة على الإطلاق، لماذا؟ سيحاول هذا المقال تحرِّي مواضع الصُّعوبة في عمليَّات الترجمة الأدبيَّة.
تختلف التّرجمة الأدبيّة جذريًّا عن كلّ نوعٍ آخر من الترجمات؛ إذ تكفي نظرةٌ سريعة إلى حجم النّصوص التي تتعامل معها لملاحظة الفرق الواضح بينها وبين أيِّ ترجمةٍ أخرى. فالعملُ على قطعة لغويّة داخل سياقٍ واسع من مئات الآلاف من الكلمات ليس مهمة يسيرة، وكذلك محاولة إعادة نظم مقطعٍ شعريٍّ إلى لغةٍ مُختلفة دون أن يفقد معناه وذوقه.
من أعظم تحدِّيات ساحة التّرجمة الأدبيّة، هو خلقُ التّوازن الذي لا يخونُ المعنى الأصليّ، ويقدّم، في الوقتِ نفسه، نصًّا متفرّدا يتذوَّقه القارئ كما كان سيفعل بلغته الأصلية الأولى.
اسأل أي مترجمٍ أدبيّ، ولا شكَّ أنَّه سيخبرك أنّ كلّ كلمة في النّص قد تشكّل تحدِّيا حقيقيّا أمام التّرجمة. فإنْ كان المؤلّف قد اختار تلك الكلمة تحديدًا، دون غيرها فذلك لسببٍ معيّن، وتصبحُ مهمّة المترجم حينذاك أنْ ينقل المعنى السَّليم إلى اللغة الأخرى. ولكن، ما يحدثُ غالبًا هو عدم وجود ترجمةٍ مباشرة مؤدِّيةٍ للمعنى نفسِه، وحينذاك يتوجَّب الاختيار بين طيفٍ واسعٍ من الكلمات ذات المعاني المتقاربة.
عندما يتعلّق الأمر بترجمة كتابٍ ما، أعقدُ ما يمكن مواجهته هو نقلُ المعنى، والتقاط كلِّ عناصر العاطفة والأحاسيس فيه، دون المخاطرة بفقدان جوهره. إليكَ سبعًا من أشهر أخطاء التّرجمة الأدبيِّة، وكيف تُتَجاوَز:
الترجمة الحرفيّة: أسرعُ طريقةٍ لتغيير المعنى ونقله بطريقة خاطئة من لغةٍ إلى أخرى، هو ترجمة النّص كلمةً بكلمة، دون أيِّ مراعاة للسّياق.
تضخيم المعنى: من جهةٍ أخرى، تعتمد فعالية الترجمة على عدم الانسياق وراء معانٍ مبالغٍ فيها، قد تؤدِّي إلى تحريف المعنى المقصود.
الاعتماد الكامل على برامج الترجمة الفوريّة: لا يمكن لأغلب برامج التَّرجمة أن تحدِّد السّياق العامَّ للنَّص، أو أن تلتقط نبرة التَّعبير والعاطفة الكامنة في النص.
سوء استيعاب سياق الكلمة: فإن تورَّط المترجم في فهمٍ خاطئ أو ناقصٍ للسّياق؛ فإنَّه سيختارُ ترجمةً خاطئة لبعض الكلمات؛ وقد يؤدِّي به هذا إلى تحريف معنى النَّص الأصليِّ كلِّيَّة.
التقاط نبرة تعبيريّة خاطئة: عادةً ما يكون من الصَّعب للغاية نقل النبرة والأسلوب المستعمل في السِّياق بشكلٍ مناسب، دون أيِّ تغيير فيهما.
تجاهل الفروقات الثقافيّة: إن ترجمةً لا تُعِير أيَّ اهتمام لاختلاف الثَّقافات بين اللُّغات قد تُسَبّب مواقفَ مزعجةً أو جارحةً.
الثّقة المفرطة: مهما كان مستوى المهارة والقدرة اللغويّة للمترجم، فإنَّ الأخطاء تبقى دومًا محتملة؛ إذ أنه من الحماقة أن يُكتفى بمهارة التّرجمة دون التّفكير بعرض النَّص على المراجعة والتنقيح.
