Being a member has enabled me to contact many new clients, most of which I now receive regular work from. Next to professional qualifications, ProZ.com membership is the best investment a translator can make.
While I have been part of the community for more than five years, I just became a member last month. I cannot believe how many contacts I have made since becoming a (paying) member... I have three new clients and these are some of the best clients I have ever had.

The Blue Board is extremely useful for filtering out undesirable clients (bad/slow payers) - a feature that is only available to full members, but it is worth its weight in gold.
At first, I was a non-paying member for a couple of years and I was never contacted by potential clients directly. Becoming a paying member at ProZ.com allowed me to grow as a professional, as a person and as a business.
Once I discovered ProZ.com, I immediately became a member and started to reply to job offers. This past year has been great. I woke up one morning deciding to go back to translating full time but I was not 100% sure that my decision was the right one. I left my "safe" English teaching job and recontacted my old clients. It didn't take long and I was soon back on track. Thanks to ProZ I have made contacts with new agencies around the world. ProZ.com is indispensable for two reasons:
1. The BlueBoard - where avoiding one bad payer will cover your subscription
2. The Translators' Directory - where clients go looking for translators.
Using ProZ.com for the past 5 years has been and is invaluable to me. It provides a forum for customers to locate a translator to fit their translation needs. When running into problems or queries, the various forums on Proz are an excellent source of advice and collegial support
