Here are some of the most common job interview questions. Use the answer suggestions we give here to create and practice your own answers.
Tell me about yourself
This is a very general question. The interviewer is interested in your professional, not personal, background. Focus on your studies and on the jobs you have had in the past.
Start with a description of yourself – your professional and educational background.
Highlight your most important working experiences or your most significant educational experience.
Finally, explain why you are interested in getting the job.
Here are a couple of example answers. Use them to help you construct your own response.
If you have specific skills, training, and experience:
I have a degree in Statistics and Information Management from … . When I finished studying, I started working in a small local company that analyzes statistical data. During this time, I developed many skills, such as the ability to describe and interpret real phenomena in various sectors. I researched your company and the position you are offering, and I believe I have the skills and the passion that are necessary to do the job well.
If you don't have any specific training or work experience:
While I was looking for a job, I took care of my family. I was responsible for my children's upbringing. I am good with children and am very patient. I had to take care of the house, keep it clean and tidy, do the shopping. During this time, I learned a lot about finance because we didn't have much money and I had to budget while considering the needs of the whole family. Thanks to this experience I'm now a very organized and responsible person.
Why should we choose you?
Before your interview, read the job description. Choose 3 to 5 skills you have that are the most important for the job. Talk about those skills. You can also say:
You know how to do this job, and can deliver good results.
If you don't have enough experience to say this, you could say instead that you have always wanted to improve your skills in this kind of work. You are a person who learns quickly and will do your utmost.
You will be a good team player, and will support the team in successfully pursuing their targets and the company's goals.
Be brief, and focus on your best skills as required for the job.
What are your strengths?
This can sometimes be the most important question that makes up the interviewer's mind. Here is how you can prepare an answer in advance.
Make a list of all the qualities you have and that you can think of. You can start with those relevant to the job and continue from there more generally. Don't worry about what you should or shouldn't write, you can always cross them out later. Your list might say:
2. Ask a friend who knows you well to make the same list about you, and to be truthful. You might find something that you hadn't thought of before.
3. Choose 3 or 4 strengths that most represent you and that also match the job description.
4. The final, very important step is to give practical examples. For every strength you have chosen, prepare a real-life example that you can describe. This will make your description of yourself more convincing.
What did you do when you weren't working or studying?
The interviewer will ask you about any gaps on your CV: the best thing is to remain calm and polite. If they were concerned about this gap, they wouldn't have invited you for a job interview. Answer positively, perhaps saying "looking for new opportunities" instead of "unemployed."
You could also say:
During that time I tried to improve my [Italian/computer skills]. Many companies were looking for someone who had those skills, and so I wanted to get better.
Or:
While I was looking for a job, I managed my household and took care of my children and my elderly parents. I am very patient with children and elderly people.
Why do you want to work for us?
Be honest when you answer this question. If you have any experience relevant to the job you could say:
I would like to work for you because you are a large company that offers good career opportunities, and I think my experience could help you achieve good results quickly.
If you don't have any work experience, remember what you've read and learned about the company when you were looking for information in the internet. You could explain which particular strength or interest makes you suitable for this company. For example, if you are applying to be a shop assistant, you could say:
I am a sociable person and I like the contact with people. The job you are offering requires a direct contact with the customers and this is something I find very stimulating.
Or if you are applying to be a mechanic, you could say:
I researched your garage and I noticed that you are very professional. I have little experience of the job, but I will work hard to learn quickly. I am very patient and I enjoy working with cars.
Why did you follow this course of study?
This question is usually asked if the course of study is not directly related to the role. For example, you may have studied history and you are applying for a job as a shop assistant.
Don't worry about your studies: if the interviewer didn't think you were suitable, they wouldn't have called you for a job interview! When you answer this question, it is just important that you explain your choices with conviction. With this question, the interviewer is trying to understand if you have made random choices or if you have had a plan. You can answer honestly that you studied what you enjoyed but that the job prospects in that field were not as positive as you had thought. So you decided to look for a job in other areas.
You could say, for example:
I studied history because I was very interested in understanding the past and how it affects our present. But as I gained work experience, I realized that I enjoy working with people. I find it very stimulating.
Do you have any questions?
This question is usually asked at the end of the interview. Try not to say "no" or remain silent. Asking questions shows that you are genuinely interested in the job. The interviewer expects you to have done some research on the company or on the sector they work in prior to the interview.
If you are unable to prepare a question on their specific business, you can ask for some information about the job you are applying for.
For example:
What would my role be, exactly? (you can ask this question if the information you have is not very clear)
What is a typical working day for someone in this role?
What are the main challenges for this role?
How many people will I be directly working with and what are their responsibilities?
You can ask the interviewer if they know by when the final decision on this role will be made.
What if they have already answered all the questions you prepared answers for? Prepare some questions they are unlikely to offer information on. When was the company founded, does the company have plans to expand, how many people work in each department – anything that shows you are interested in the company rather than just in your own job. Don't ask questions about salary or holidays unless the interviewer addresses the subject or makes you an offer.

You can ever know exactly what interviewers are going to ask. But here are some other questions for which you can think about good answers:
How did you find out about this job?
What do you know about our company?
Do you think you work better alone or with colleagues?
Can you give me an example of a problem that you had to face and resolve?
How do you spend your free time?
Interview questions can sometimes seem strange, and even irrelevant to the job. You should know that the interviewer has chosen them for a very specific reason. During an interview it is important to get to know the candidate not just in terms of their resume but what kind of person they are. So give honest respectful answers. For example, if you wrote on your resume that you like cooking or playing football, it may give a bad impression if you don’t know what to say when you are asked what you do in your free time. So try to be focused and honest about when you answer. Do not stay silent! It’s better to say, “I spend my free time with my family” than to say nothing or “I don’t know.”

We understand that while you may be obliged to increase the fees due to the current inflation, that would be gravely compromising the education of your students as many will be forced to drop out especially due to the short notice.
Many of the students have just about been able to collect the funds to pay for the previous tuition fees by working beforehand and saving with the help of their families. Unfortunately, if the tuition fees are to be increased, it would be beyond many students and their families income and will.
Since the previous announcement the international students gathered together to get in contact with you and deliver our serious concerns regarding the matter but have unfortunately been rejected on every occasion. Furthermore, we went to the student affairs several times , of which we contacted through the online services with more than one person, we got no response at all. We were then told by a student from the student council who contacted us and claimed to have arranged for us to meet with you and two of the students affairs. However, this information turned out to be false.
We are aware that our university does not accept this kind of treatment to its students, and we doubtlessly know that you would not approve of such acts.
The foreign students effected by this change have worked very hard throughout their education at [Hidden for the privacy of the customer] and have been achieved exceptional results thus far. As such, it would be a shame if they are unable to continue their education and proceed to make our university proud. We therefore ask you, on behalf of the foreign student at [Hidden for the privacy of the customer], to reconsider the increase in tuition fees for the students who enrolled and proceeded in their education and for the tuition fees to be announced as soon as possible so that students may take the appropriate measures.
We shall be very grateful to you for giving us this opportunity by taking our situation into consideration. We are eager to avail this opportunity by surfing all our energies to make our institute proud of our performances in both curricular and extra-curricular activities.
