Ticking the box is very colloquial, originating from multiple choice test and online forms and can be translated differently.

Attempts in PR and marketing to tick the ecology and sustainability box should use watertight evidence.

And this already ticks a second sustainability box: only products that can be broken down into their individual materials can be properly recycled, giving them a "second product life".

Not strictly a mechanical engineering query, more of a stylistic conundrum.

BTW, a relative of mine at the TU / technische Universität in Vienna taught Betriebsforschung : (BrE) operational research (AmE) operations research in both German & English.
