冷不丁地一看，我还以为扇子上题的是 日文 呢。 ...

1） "笃" 字中文通常不常见 ，偏僻的汉字（依我看）反而常见于日文
2） "方" 字写得像个日文假名似的
3） “正” 字虽然写得是标准草体，但与其他楷体字放在一起(in contrast)，也貌似一个与 “方” 字并行的日文假名

我也是查了一下才知道原来那是北师大二附中的校训。我还是更喜欢国画家的书法，象郑板桥，傅抱石。

Steve, 可能让你见笑: 真的记不清楚什么时候说过“冷不丁“一词儿了 (回国的次数还算可以), 这样看来你要是回去是会语惊四座的!

我认为你上四中的决定是完全正确的。北京四中比师大二附中强多了。

我估计师大二附中的“笃志 博学”是取自论语的“博学而笃志”。以此作为中学校训，似乎对学生要求过高。作为大学校训倒还差不多。

The definition of Hertz is "cycles per second". So isn't "Hertz per second" or "赫兹每秒" kind of redundant?

I noticed that with both Richard Quest's CNN reporting and a CCTV report that I found on the web.

But anyway, it's a great relief they detected the black box pinger signal.

Once the pinger comes in contact with water, it emits an ultrasonic pulse of 37.5 kHz at an interval of once per second – which is inaudible to the human ear. Locating the pingers for Flight 370 also forms a major part of the search, as the pingers only have a battery life of about 30 days – after which it is lost forever.



I guess this is what they meant - they picked up a signal of 37.5 KHz that was pulsing at one pulse per second intervals.

But like Mary Schiavo says: The signal should have kept going instead of lasting for only one and a half minutes.
