Other Apr 9, 2012

I don't remember. I might have bought a software licence or a memory stick or similar, but am not sure if it was before or after the New Year. It's not something I keep a note of (unless they might be tax deductible, in which case I'd have an incentive to keep a record).

Hardware so far Apr 9, 2012

New PC and what comes along (printer, modem, connection...).
With a bit of luck, I'll manage to register and pay for the Barcelona conference before the end of the week!

several of the above Apr 9, 2012

New laptop, new internet security, new car, new software (upgrade 2009 - 2011), new iPad, new printer, etc. etc. )
This is the year of investment for me so that I have to pay less tax

Nothing Apr 9, 2012

I completely re-equpped my office in December '11 - new PC, larger monitor, external hard-drive, larger desk, new chair - so the major investment was done recently, but not this year.

I'll probably treat myself to some more dictionaries later this year.

Two items Apr 9, 2012

First my membership in the Translators Association, and presently in a Professional PDF Editor. Mind you, the membership was more expensive than the editor (only 95.00 Euro)

Nothing yet, but soon Apr 9, 2012

I've not made any investments yet, although my laptop makes me nervous sometimes, so I guess I have to look for a new one soon.

New car?! Could you explain how you make this tax deductible for a translator? Sounds interesting

The start-up tools Apr 9, 2012

I am just starting out in translation, so I bought a new laptop, I got connected to the newly installed fiber-optic cable in my neighborhood and I became a ProZ.com member.

investment = Q is about business = tax deductible, surely? Apr 9, 2012

Surely given the nature of the question, it refers to things bought for the purposes of the business which therefore means it is asking about stuff which by definition is tax deductible, at least in part?
I don't think it means a memory stick bought for swapping holiday snaps (could be, could be, say no more squire, say no more)...

Bit of a daft question though; hard to answer if you've bought stuff in more than one category.

Expenses Apr 9, 2012

2011: $900+ on software, $550 on memberships, $3000+ on advertising, $2000+ on dictionaries/books, etc.

2012: extreme cut-backs
