In Bengali it is: amma, ammu (mother to child)

The funny thing is that mothers also call their children ammu. Nobody call anybody else with their proper names in this country!

...we say "mammy" (often abbreviated to "mam" or "ma").

Although we live in Italy my 2 year-old son calls me "mammy", much to the amusement of all our neighbours.

It is interesting to note that most of the languages have a ma sound in the word for mother. What is the word for mother in Latin? Does it also have the ma sound?

That's how small (and sometimes not so small) Danish kids call their mother.
It's in two syllables - "mo-ah" - and you don't roll the r's in Danish.
Mor just means "mother".
