Spanish term

Sinsentidos de la democracia

Spanish to English Social Sciences Journalism
The author lets readers know he wasn't sure whether to use ***Democracia sin sentido*** or ***Sinsentidos de la democracia*** as the title of his article. He then explains: "es que hay gente que vive la democracia en sus grandes acontecimientos y otra que aguarda en su cueva y luego se llena la boca con la bendita palabra".

If possible, I'd like to keep the play on words in the translated version. So far I've got the following, but am not quite convinced they convey the full meaning:
- Democracia sin sentido / Senseless democracy (perhaps even Democracy gone senseless)
- Sinsentidos de la democracia / Senselessness of democracy

Suggestions please! And thanks.

Democracy nonsense

I like Daniel's response and think it captures the sense of the original just fine. For the sake of searching for a catchier, title-worthy phrase that captures the ambivalence of the author (as does Daniel's suggestion), I'll just throw this out. The context you provided was good, but since we still haven't read the entire article, you'll know best which of the phrases captures the sense of the original.

Sinsentidos de la democracia--Democracy Nonsense
"This is why they would like to get away from all this democracy nonsense and get on with the job of governing...."

Democracia sin sentido--Nonsense Democracy
“…Sri Lankan democracy was made nonsensical by the 1977 Government.... Under that Government we were deluged by an unrelenting torrent of rot about Sri Lanka’s far-famed five-star democracy, a performance that was vastly impressive for its sheer zaniness. The more appropriate term might therefore be ‘nonsense democracy’

Example sentence:

As the wonkiest drunks among you know, Barfly hosts an annual debate watching party. We are always sure to have plenty of libation on hand, as an ice-cold martini is the only think that makes this democracy nonsense somewhat bearable.

NINOY AQUINO IS NOT A HERO; HE IS JUST A VICTIM OF MARCOS TYRANNY WHICH RESORTS TO THE RESTORATION OF NONSENSE DEMOCRACY IN THE PHILIPPINES.

agree Sebastian Wasserzug : This sounds like it to me... It keeps the play upon words, doesn't it?

neutral Fiona Kirton : nonsense/senseless democracy sounds good, but 'non-senses of democracy' sounds a bit strange to me

The senselessness of democracy

Senselessnes used to mean absurdity - The word senselessness would be more in keeping with the Spanish meaning/spirit and in a way speaks for itself.
