French term

robot d’assistance physique sans contention manipulé

French to English Tech/Engineering Automation & Robotics Cobots
This is part of an article on an experiment with cobots.
Here is the full paragraph:
Les objectifs de cette étude étaient d’analyser les sollicitations biomécaniques des utilisateurs d’un robot d’assistance physique sans contention manipulé (communément appelé cobot) en situation de travail contrôlée.

My initial idea is: robot that provides physical assistance without needing to be manipulated
Another would be: restraint free manipulated robot

Any alternative answers, clarifications, or suggestions would be most welcome!
Thanks

hand-guided collaborative robot (cobot)

As the French text says, communément appelé cobot.

A collaborative robot is one that works with humans, providing physical assistance, but without being strapped to them like exoskeletons.

And therein lies the problem, for while in English robotic exoskeletons are not a subgroup of cobots, in French they are, so in French you have to talk about 'cobots (robots d'assistance physique) that are not exoskeletons (sans contention) whereas in English 'cobot' suffices.

As for manipulé, it means that the cobot does not operate automatically (it's not an 'autonomous cobot') but is guided in its work by a human hand, in the same way as an exoskeleton is guided by body movement.

"Cobot.

"Guided cobot
The guided cobot is the most recent type of cobot. It has only been on the market for a few years and was developed to be in constant collaboration with people. It takes a lot of space because of its quite big operating range. It is rather difficult to teach the robot a new task because of the required calibration of the joints. The robot scores mediocre on dexterity and easiness to integrate on the factory floor and is only usable for certain types of tasks. The throughput it supplies is very limited because of the constant collaboration with people and the very limited speed associated with the high weights it can lift. The maintenance intensity is average. Operators can quite easily intervene but will only gradually accept this cobot on the work space."

"Hand-Guided Cobots
Hand-guided robots like collaborative arc welding robots are controlled by a human operator. They’re equipped with a hand-guided device that allows an operator to directly control the robot’s motion during automatic mode. In this mode, the robot responds to the operator’s direct control input, ensuring precise manipulation of heavy workpieces while reducing the risk of repetitive-stress injuries for the operator. Hand guiding as a collaborative operation occurs during normal production in automatic mode, distinguishing it from programming, which is not done during production or in automatic mode. With hand guiding, operators can achieve a higher level of control and safety while working alongside the robot in a collaborative environment."

'Guided cobot' might suffice, but there are also 'vision-guided cobots' which I have not looked into.
