Does anyone know whether this can mean sub-contracting? Or possibly manufacturing?
It comes up a couple of times in my document, as does 'façonnier' once:
"Recherche par mots dans la description de l’activité (Objet et description NAF) : façonnier OU façonnage"
The companies referred to are all car manufacturers, although they are doing the manufacturing on behalf of other brand-named companies.
TIA

votre déduction est juste : il s'agit bien de sous-traitance.
Plutôt que "façonnage", utiliser "travail à façon".

toll manufacturing/toll manufacturer
il s'agit en effet de d'activité de fabrication en sous-traitance (la question a déjà été soulevée dans l'autre sens - et vous devriez trouver "toll manufacturer" dans les glossaires Kudoz)

You know that the "code NAF" is France's standard industrial classification coding system? It's the 4 letter code that all business have given to them, that indicates what they "do" (make, service provided, etc.).
The list consists, not unnaturally, of the trade sector (activity)codes followed by a text description of that activity.
This is the list being searched by your "word searching" thingy.
Most NAF codes (I have the full list, borrowed from my last employer!) have "fabrication" for manufacturer, but *some* do have "faconnage" and similar, e.g. code 261C, relating to sheet glass, or 212B relating to cardboard.
Do a google on ["code NAF" + faconnage] and you'll see some.
Hence, given that sub-contracting in itself is NOT a separate trade sector, and given that the NAF list is the one being searched, I think it's 'manufacture' or something similar.
