Has it got to do with the load centre for lifting forks? I fail to understand the function of "aperture" here.

interasse "interasse" always means "centre to centre distance". An unusual instance of the Italian being more succinct than the English

for greater accuracy "Centre to centre" is different from "distance between"
"distance between" is the gap between the blades
"Centre to centre" is the distance between with add two half blades widths

"Centre to centre " = "interasse"
"wheelbase" = usually used for "passo (tra le ruote)"

agree philgoddard : Yes, I think this is a strong possibility - it could be about containers or pallets.//Now that we know it's about pallets, perhaps "apertures" would be better than "pockets".

"apertures" is generic. "Pockets" is the correct technical term in relation to forklifts.

Wheelbase slots / openings

Openings for lifting forks. This is where the lifting forks lock into the driving part before you use them.

Opening e non openings perché è "apertura" nel senso di distanza tra le forche. "Aperture" è sbagliato.

If you are talking about a pallet “aperture” are “openings” and the right sentence is
