French term

Gisement, gisements d'energie renouvables

French to English Tech/Engineering Energy / Power Generation Renewable energy
Hi everyone, I am stuck for gisements d'energie renouvables - like gisement éolien etc. One source suggests "potential" like wind energy potential but this document and others I find in French are also talking about the deposits, like oil deposits or fields but in terms of renewables- so the actual locations of that source of energy on the map. I searched for "renewable energy deposits" and see it's not so commonly used and often not from a native English source, and that "renewable energy field" as the French person I'm working for suggests doesn't convey that meaning without confusion. Any ideas? thank you

this isn't my document but same context to understand: http://www.driee.ile-de-france.developpement-durable.gouv.fr...

Production site, renewable energy production site

En effet, "field" ou "deposit" ne marche pas pour les energies renouvables.
Example sentence:

Ruden’s iHEAT system creates a reservoir for storing heat that can be converted into electricity, directly under a *renewable energy production site*, such as a wind farm, incineration plant or a solar power station."

*Renewable energy production site* data and potentials across Europe. 6.1 Obtaining detailed location data (bottom-up approach).

French term (edited): gisements

resources

This seems to be the term you need to encompass everything that covers the energy source — whether or not currently exploited.
Of course, this is also a fairly common translation for 'gisements' even in a more literal sense.
Note from asker:
Thank you Tony, I have suggested this to the client and it makes the most sense

Merci, Cyril !
neutral philgoddard : I don't think this is specific enough - these resources are being exploited.

Thanks, Phil! 'Resources' makes no implication as to either 'being / not being exploited' — and is a commonly-found translation for 'gisement'

Merci, Michele !
disagree SafeTex : Completely missunderstands that "gisements" is being used in a new way here to point to facilities, (wind farms etc.) rather than resources in the more traditional sense (coal, oit)

I'm afraid not: it is you who are failing to understand why the specific term 'gisement' is being used here!
agree Yvonne Gallagher : could probably work too

Thanks, Yvonne!
agree Mpoma : yep, "renewable energy resources", the key notion being "potential (for exploitation)", like gisements pétroliers, etc.

renewable energy facilities

15 x more ghits than "renewable energy production site"
Peer comment(s):

disagree Tony M : That may be the case; BUT 'facilities' is getting further and further away from the underlying sense of 'gisements'

See my disagree to your answer in reply to this😜
disagree Mpoma : no, Tony's got it, the full phrase being "renewable energy resources"... you must have heard that expression. This is how they say it in French... with *potential* for exploitation.

Tony's answer was "resources" not "renewable energy resources" but if two words missing out of three does not bother you, you go for that then

locations of wind farms, Renewable energy sources

Sorry for being too late, I was busy last week.

I would not use the term "gisement" to describe the location of wind farms.
