French term

numéro sortant

French to English Medical General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters
This term appears above the body of a letter from the ANSM to a head pharmacist. It is preceded by one line with "NL/CIS", and two other lines, each with "NL" and a long number. "Numéro sortant" is followed by another long number. I don't believe this is a telephone number, as far as I can tell. Target audience is US.

Scott de Lesseps (asker) Mar 2, 2020:
Alison, yes, it's very similar to that document.
AllegroTrans Mar 2, 2020:
Almost certainly a reference number starting with 2020 (the year). Clearly not a phone number.
Alison MacG Mar 2, 2020:
Date You say the number starts 202. Does it start 2020? Is this the type of document?

As for CIS, it may be this:
CIS : Code Identifiant de Spécialité
Code numérique de 8 chiffres identifiant une spécialité pharmaceutique.

For NL, see this previous question:

The number has 13 digits Hi everyone,

The number has 13 digits. It starts with "202", which I know is the area code for Washington, D.C., but I don't think that applies here. "NL/CIS" is by itself on the first line. I'm not sure what either acronym stands for. I don't believe "Carcinoma in situ" fits in this context. Another reason why I believe it's not a phone number is because the number is written all as one string -- no spaces or parentheses.
Yvonne Gallagher Mar 2, 2020:
@ Asker @ Virginia Nl Normal CIS Carcinoma in situ

is that possible as a meaning in the context?
Verginia Ophof Mar 2, 2020:
outgoing report numbers to the ANSM ? Nl Normal CIS Carcinoma in situ
AllegroTrans Mar 2, 2020:
Asker How many digits are in this number? Does it start with a country or area code? Is there anything against the "NL/CIS" and the "NL"? Do you know what these acronyms mean? We need to be helped to visualise this. Thanks!

outgoing number

I think it's best to give just a literal translation here since we don't know what this number refers to, whether it's a phone number or file number or something else.

Since it is from the ANSM (Agence Nationale de Sécurité du Médicament et des Produits de Santé) and is preceded by CIS, (Centraal Informatie Systeem) NL (Netherlands I assume?) it could be either.

I'll go with the same CL as the other 2 answers!

agree AllegroTrans : Much more likely to be correct, but it would help if asker would provide extra context

outgoing phone number

I think this must be an outgoing phone number (caller ID). Perhaps ask google who the number belongs to?
Peer comment(s):

neutral AllegroTrans : How do you know it's a phone number given that asker thinks it isn't?

neutral Eliza Hall : I suspect you're right -- its placement (above the body of a letter) sounds like where phone numbers are printed on faxes (i.e. when you get a fax, it shows who sent it). But we need more info to be sure.
