Nothing wrong with "record" which is a precise rendering of "aufnehmen'. But I like "assess" a little bit better in the context of this sentence:

"The customer is required to immediately notify ExIntern in writing of any damage within the meaning of the liability provisions above or to have such damage assessed by ExIntern, enabling ExIntern to be informed as early as possible while giving the contracting parties the opportunity to jointly mitigate the damage."
