German term

Wirtschaftswaren

German to English Medical Transport / Transportation / Shipping Driverless transport of goods at a hospital
From a German-language report at a symposium on the details of a driverless goods transport system at a hospital. Translating to UK English. Wondering if "Wirtschaftswaren" means "custodial supplies" in this context or simply "business goods" of some sort?

"Das Versorgungszentrum ist die Zentrale der Transportaktivitäten. Von hier aus werden alle Stationen mit verschiedensten Gütern versorgt. So befinden sich im Versorgungszentrum die Sendestellen für Apothekenwaren, Wirtschaftswaren, Medizinwaren, Reintextilien, Sterilisation, Speisen usw."
Change log

Feb 5, 2014 08:23: Steffen Walter changed "Level" from "Non-PRO" to "PRO"

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

PRO (3): David Hollywood, BrigitteHilgner, Steffen Walter

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

Coqueiro Feb 5, 2014:

I have seen the word alongside "Seifen"...
Could this be in the field of "detergents"?

household goods/items

very hard to say in this context but maybe (I think you should ask the client for closer specification ... if the client can provide that info)

"Wirtschaft" can just refer to "housekeeping" as opposed to the more economic term as below:

Definition of economic goods: A consumable item that is useful to people but scarce in relation to its demand, so that human effort is required to obtain it.

thi list is not worded in hospital-specific terms so maybe "household goods/items" would fit the bill but let's see what others have to say ...

should read "the list" of course

maybe "domestic goods/items"
Peer comment(s):

neutral Jonathan MacKerron : perhaps more "housekeeping goods/articles", given the hospital context

commodities and consumer goods (for hospitals)

As described in the following link: http://www.taiwantrade.com.tw/MAIN/SimpleProdCategorySch.do?...

It also seems to include much of what is exhibited at this U.K. trade show: http://www.esuppliersindia.com/tradefairs/HEALTHCARE-ESTATES...

I also found the dictionary entry "economic good(s)" but I think that's too general for our context:

Peer comment(s):

agree Rosa Foyle : I agree with Michael on this one.
