Greetings

My sentence for translation is as before:
'Peeping Toms' used to have their eyes put out with a red-hot poker.

A most unpleasant thing to be, of course, but nevertheless the term has an interesting history:

Best wishes, and many thanks,

نظرباز

Hi Simon,
This term exactly means ,"چشم چران","چشم هیز","چشم ناپاک", So I completely agree with two aforementioned suggestuins; But, just one point, If you look for a meaning with historical background I think "نظرباز" is the term you looking for!
If you are familiar with our liteary, specially with HAfEZ, you can see different usage of this word, its meaning is somhow complicated, I mean sometimes it has positive meaning (spiritual meaning; mystical meaning) and sometime it refers to a very negative meaning!
So if you need a term with an interesting history,I think, this term is more helpful!

چشم هیز

چشم هیز / هیز are other options that fit this context. چشم هیز has more negative connotation than دید زن and چشم چران
