As so often, you cannot take this one word in isolation; you need to consider the phrase as a whole in order to find a way of phrasing it that sounds natural and appropriate in EN.
In normal technical EN, it would be more usual to express this the other way round: "the current flows through them". Obviously you will need to reword the rest of the sentence carefully around this crucial central idea.
Note that in technical EN, current is usually said to 'flow'; 'passes' is an acceptable alternative.
