agree Cilian O'Tuama : or simply 'using an image converter', making the '-kontrolle' superfluous

neutral Harald Moelzer (medical-translator) : Obviously there is a lot of equipment, where image converters are used - 4880 hits for "Bildwandler", but most of them in terms of digital cameras etc. In this medical context (placement of a port catheter) you don´t use digital cameras (yet?)

Thanks, having seen (over monitor) this type of opration being performed, I'm not really sure about whether the cameras are digital or not, I just know that they are absolutely tiny.

neutral Michele Johnson : I think this could be more general imaging, not just x-ray; see LaRoch dict, http://www.gesundheit.de/roche/ro02500/r3786.html

image intensification

As mentioned from the Roche dictionary. Maybe something like "with the help of image intensification" might work for you. Everything I try with "image intensifier" sounds odd (image-intensifier guided?)

monitored by fluoroscopy

A Bildwandler is called an image converter in optics, but when this is used in medicine to position catheters and the like, it is called fluoroscopy and the machine is called a fluoroscope. This is the correct medical terminology - not "image converter".

I guarantee you that in medicine this is fluoroscopy - NOT an image converter!!!
Peer comment(s):

agree Elisabeth Ghysels : or simply "under fluoroscopy" indeed, f.i. http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/410644_3
