Spanish term

Reunión Presidencia con representación social

Spanish to English Bus/Financial Human Resources Presidencia
In reference to a business meeting. (A summary of a business meeting and its results)
There are 2 tricky concepts here: Presidencia (Board Meeting?) and representación social.
I have found no satisfactory clarification, despite many references to these terms in previous consultations.
Who knows what they're really talking about here?

Discussion

Bill Harrison (X) Dec 20, 2010:
Phil Goddard You're right. Anality is a pre-requisite. As to presidencia, if the word can mean the person occupying the position, as it is defined as including, then it can also mean prime minister, as in the "presidente" of the government of Spain, who is the "prime minister", not president. There you go, more anality.
philgoddard Dec 20, 2010:
A decade? Surely it's an entry-level qualification for the job?
Bill Harrison (X) Dec 20, 2010:
Charles We are agreed. Just to nit-pick however, I would not say union reps, althought they may well be. Under Spanish labour law firms with a certain number of employees have to appoint worker representatives who need not necessarily have any union connection. The problem with translation is that one becomes anal after a decade or so.

Bill Fair enough! I must admit I'm a bit inclined to be too hasty myself, and would do better to hold back sometimes.
Bill Harrison (X) Dec 20, 2010:
Thanks Charles, I prefer to post answers now when I am absolutely sure of the answer from my own specialised knowledge, having made an ass of myself when attempting to translate a 'frase hecha' earlier, 'sentir los colores' which is not in my specialist field and which I unfortunately had never come across before (being uninterested in football or any other sports)!!
Justin Peterson (asker) Dec 20, 2010:
Thanks to all... all cleared up... I should have asked AFTER completing the whole translation. Mental note. Yes, this refers to the President and company executives and union representatives. Obvious once I got into the heart of the translation.
Charles Davis Dec 20, 2010:
Context Well, I quite agree that the more context the better, but we do know that this is about business and finance, specifically human resources, and that it refers to a business meeting. This, to me, makes it pretty well certain that Bill's first suggestion is right: Presidencia means the Chairman of a company (possibly accompanied by his immediate team) and representación social means the union reps (or worker representatives if you prefer). This is probably a meeting of what in the UK is often called a Joint Consultative Committee, though I wouldn't translate it like that. Why not post your answer, Bill?
philgoddard Dec 20, 2010:
Yes, we need the context in Spanish please. We also need to know what the document is about, and what kind of organisation is involved. Bill's first suggestion may be on the right lines, but "presidencia" doesn't mean "prime minister".
Bill Harrison (X) Dec 20, 2010:
This one again requires more context. My gut would say Meeting between chairman and and worker representatives, as it is a business meeting. In another context it could mean meeting between prime minister and representatives of social groups. The answer could probably be deduced from the rest of the document.

Proposed translations

2 hrs

meeting between the President(or President's team) and representitives of various bodies

This could be a possibility. It would be useful to know who was actually present.
