agree Bourth (X) : Though I don't think "fermage" has anything to do with farmland, but rather to private management of municipal services.//My mistake: it would (should) indeed be "affermage" (though have seen one for the other).

agree writeaway : billposting. but oeuf corse. In US farmers used to allow companies to paint ads on the sides of barns etc. visible to the road. they got paid for that. no idea if it still happens.
