Discussion

Adriana Portas Jun 1, 2005:
Dear all, "chapiscado" in Brazil means the application of cement mass through a strainer onto the wall. This type of wall doesn't need painting at all. It's a cheap way to finish a wall and very used throughout Brazil
Sormane Gomes May 31, 2005:
Sorry...I meant to say...HAS old paint...stuccoed wall with old paint, IMO.
Jane Lamb-Ruiz (X) May 31, 2005:
In this case, chapiscado means splotches of paint ie in description terms in English: wall : paint peeling off
Jane Lamb-Ruiz (X) May 31, 2005:
well I am not sure at all: muro chapiscado is a stucco wall..like they do in Brazil and all over LA..but here I think it means the paint is peeling off the walls..which matches your other question about leaking faucets..that seems to be the ballgame
Sormane Gomes May 31, 2005:
I agree...I think 'chapiscado' modifies wall and that the wall is WITH old paint. That's the way I read it.
Non-ProZ.com May 31, 2005:
Hi Jane... it's part of a technical opinion on a building... a description of the wall... I think airmailrpl is right that it's stuccoed..., with old paint, because the building is in need of a paint job throughout
Jane Lamb-Ruiz (X) May 31, 2005:
Marian..is that a list? A requirement? Something they have to clean up? Get rid of? Chapisco is stucco but here it does mean : splotches of old paint

Jane
\"plywood is only 3cm\"
that is over an inch thick which is very robust plywood.

\"naval in English has the meaning of re-inforced\"
No - \'Naval\' or \'Marine\' in English means that the plywood is treated to be water resistant
Peer comment(s):

neutral Jane Lamb-Ruiz (X) : yes..except maybe here splotches//...I know naval in English has the meaning of re-inforced etc. but the Portuguese explanation said it was not re-inforced. the plywood is only 3cm etc. so I didn't understand your reaction..

disagree Jane Lamb-Ruiz (X) : a pintura está chapiscada...

fico feliz com seu desagree
disagree Sormane Gomes : "chapiscado" modifies wall; not the way it was painted.
2 hrs
wrong, it's just the way it is painted
neutral airmailrpl : very hard to 'chapiscar' a wall with old paint - old paint wouldn't splash because it would be dry

wall: old paint peeling off or old paint spotches

If this is the current condition of the wall, it means: it has splotches of old paint on it....the paint is crumbling off ....I am sure that if that is meaning...ie current condition and needs fixing, this is the meaning

neutral airmailrpl : old paint on a stuccoed wall - the paint definitely needs to be redone

roughcast

it means the wall has received a “chapisco” finish, which basically means applying, by sloshing on with a trowel, a sand and cement rough finish. I am not sure how you would best put this in English, but a proz glossary has it as “roughcast”.
Peer comment(s):

agree rhandler : It's in our Glossary, look: http://www.proz.com/kudoz/978090?keyword=chapisco. Roughcast wall with old paint.
