Is Proz.com really \"home to over 20,000 language professionals\"? Thread poster: Giovanni Guarnieri MITI, MIL

Sorry, but who counted them? This is a serious question. Henry, can you shed some light on this? It\'s not a provocation or a joke, it just seems an outrageously high number.

I agree with you. Please count me in! If a translator is counted for each language pair (and someone has really more than two pairs in his/her profile) this number is easily reached.

Hey Mattias,
Le us not speculate. We will have it through the horse\'s mouth. Till then keep guessing? | | | Mats Wiman Sweden Local time: 10:54 Member (2000) German to Swedish + ... In memoriam Registered individuals | Nov 27, 2001 |
Awaiting Henry\'s info, I understand the figure as individuals with a ProZ.com user name and password.
Right Henry?
Mats Wiman | | | Yes indeed, counts are (automatically) made according to individual registrations | Nov 27, 2001 |
Exactly, Mats. That\'s what I thought as well, but Henry will have to confirm.
By the way, we\'re over 26.000 already and still growing...

Right: registrations - bad emails | Nov 27, 2001 |
Right. The figure is the number of registrations, minus the number of profiles in which the email address is no longer accessible.
Only a portion of those who register, of course, are active on a daily basis (4500-5000 log in at least every other day.)
Now that I am being called to task, I must admit that strictly speaking, the site is \"home\" to no one...and the definition of \"professionals\" must be left to the reader! ... See more Right. There are 26,000 profiles (and a large number of these, from what I have seen surfing the site, are anonymous profiles with no information posted - in some cases, the registered user did not even bother to enter his/her language combinations). Plus, there are several people who maintain 2 or 3 or more profiles (for whatever reason).
So, I think Henry\'s number of about 5,000 logins every day sounds about right.

So, if you are asking about the \"real people\" on this site, I\'d say there are about 5,000 (active users with frequent \"profile movements\").
As for the number of professionals, well, I\'ll let you be the judge. ▲ Collapse | | | Nikki Graham United Kingdom Local time: 09:54 Spanish to English One more - and let's not start this all over again | Nov 27, 2001 |
