Hi!
I am a young freelance translator.
Many translation agencies require Trados software, but it's too expensive for me!
Would anyone offer to me a license please?
Thank you,

Wordfast is a cheaper softare package which will enable you to produce Trados-compatible files.
I think it will be highly unlikely that anyone will share a Trados license with you, for several reasons. One, the license is non-transferrable between users. Second, by giving away a Trados license, the donor will not be able to use the program on a second computer. Many of us work on 2 machines and appreciate the convenience of having the license installed on both computers.

Third, and this is a serious consideration, as anyone who had made the mistake of sharing software with an inexperienced user has discovered: just sharing the software (license, etc) is not the end of the story. I once gave a copy of a complex software program to a friend and discovered that this person thought he got free support -- from me. I finally had to tell him never to call me again. Others have had the same experience.
You'll really feel better about yourself if you purchase your own software, as you'll have a sense of accomplishment and pride of ownership. ▲ Collapse | | | Eva Blanar Macaristan Local time: 17:51 İngilizce > Macarca + ... Just WordFast | Aug 15, 2005 |
Kevin is absolutely right: don't make your life difficult with Trados (it was the first CAT tool, but that's about the size of it).
WordFast is excellent, fully compatible with Trados (same delimiters, you cannot tell the difference unless you go very deep into the file's data sheet and translation agencies, in my opinion, are so crazy about Trados only because it provides the lowest wordcount of all tools I ever saw). You might have a look at the article of Andrei Gerasimov about Trados, moreover, right now you can make use of the TGB sale. Go for it.

Hi
I know I'm quoting an old quote, but I'd like to know if both softwares are still compatible. I was thinking about buying Trados 2007, but I couldn't get the money on time for the group buy.
If I receive a itd file from trados 2007, can I open it in wordfast?
Also, in the same posts, someone Kevin said

Does that mean with a Trados license I can install into 2 computers, but ONLY 2? is this right?
I mean, could I share the license with my brother, if we are working together?
Another question, how often are the group buys.
Thanks!

to explain a little more about the comapatibility of these two, since I am choosing between the two and since Wordfast is so much simpler and obviously easier to learn, I will probably choose it. But I want to know if a client would require Trados, I can say no I have Wordfast, I can still do it?!
