Hello, I'm in the final year of my masters in translation (Sp>Eng). For the dissertation we need to translate a text, up to 9,000 words that hasn't been translated previously.
I'm doing my own research into this but I thought it may be worth posting on here in case anyone has any suggestions on where to find texts. I'm particularly interested in tourism, marketing, FMCG texts as this is my professional background but I'd be happy to also look at literary texts or other non-specialised area... The translation is solely for academic purposes but obviously I'd be happy to pass it onto wherever the text came from if that was of interest afterwards.
If you can suggest anything, I'd really appreciate it.
thanks

Hi Janice,
I completed my MA a couple of years ago and I had to do the same for my dissertation. I specialised in medical texts and had been translating small texts during the year for classes that I had found on the internet (medical journals etc some of which are available online without subscriptions), so I decided to do the same for my dissertation, choosing a longer text. My supervisor didn't have any issue with this so I assume it wouldn't be a problem for your dissertation? I... See more Hi Janice,

My supervisor didn't have any issue with this so I assume it wouldn't be a problem for your dissertation? If you already have experience translating in a couple of fields then I would suggest looking on websites, journals etc that you have already familiar with (either because you have translated for them before or because you have experience with them purely through your specialism). If you have any contacts in these fields, would they be able to provide a suitable text? Whatever you find, run it by your supervisor first to check it's okay to use!

I was going to suggest the same - searching for articles in your areas of interest (marketing, etc.) and translating them. However, the few that I looked at were much shorter than 10,000 words long, and I'm too busy this week to spend any more time looking for longer texts. | | | Jinty Birleşik Krallık Local time: 04:17 İspanyolca > İngilizce KONUYU BAŞLATAN

There must be lots of Latin American NGO's (working in Eco tourism for example) who would be happy to get their texts translated but can't afford to pay for it; that might be an option, and as a bonus you'd feel useful too.
