Any thoughts?

It seems to me that they've made if appear more modern whilst complicating the user interface to make it les intuitive, and adding extra clicks to get where you want to go.

Hopeless! Jun 13, 2012

Yes, quite agree, and I have started drafting a message to them on this very subject.

As you say, more fiddly layout, more clicks to get where you need to go... and much harder to see the interrelation between subject areas as in the old list format.

And another stupid thing: the old coloured logo used to stand out prominently in my bookmarks list, the new 'discreet' one is totally lost!

Survey Jun 13, 2012

On the homepage it says there'll soon be a survey where we can tell them what we think of the new GDT, so I'll woat for then to give my feedback I think.

It's reassuring to know it isn't just me who doesn't get it!

I hate it! Jun 13, 2012

I used it for the first time yesterday and had to give up because it seemed a lot more difficult to use than the simple good old-fashioned format that I have been used to for years now. I probably won't be using it so much in the future. It must be my age...

They irritate you with bald announcements Jun 13, 2012

With great difficulty I went through the site layout and clicked on the promising link granddictionnaire terminolique and got the following bald announcement:

If you click the last named link, it is back to square one.

Aaargh! Jun 13, 2012

So, to test it, I entered "bolt" (the first word through my mind) and selected "English" as the "langue d'interrogation" (after selecting French first, hoping I would get only results in French, but never mind).

The first two entries displayed are "billet" and "block". The first "bolt" entry comes only in third position.

Forget about it, like native (and non-native New Yorkers) are fond of saying!

Slow !!! Jun 16, 2012

The way to choose domains might be more convenient than the previous version, but unfortunately it is slow.

The least they could have done is to leave the opportunity to use the older version for a tool used by so many professionals. It wants to be a super-professional move and it ends looking very amateur.

And in any case, I don't usually find the domains very helpful; to start with, they are not always very accurate, and also, one definition often fits several domains, but is noted in only one of them. That was what I specifically liked about the old presentation: you could see all the domains listed together, and by trying likely ones, I've often found the term I needed in a quite different domain.

This new system is a total waste of time, and much slower to use than the old system — frankly, it's a disaster, and I for one found no problems with the old format. As the famous saying goes: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

A step back Jun 17, 2012

I really tried to adapt to the new format, would it be only for not being perceived as reluctant to changes when I would submit my comments to the survey, but my conclusion is always the same: a lot less effective. A 10-second search turns into minutes and you have to read through a lot before finding what you're looking for. It looks like they got the same guy who complicates every new version of Microsoft products as if nothing should be done without clicking and clicking and clicking again!...
