It was a test piece, an excerpt from a patent. It came among several other translations of the same piece. I did the others but refused my own.

The notion of delivering a job which the client might consider required subsequent further tweaking is interesting.
This doesn't mean that I can claim never to have done a ropey job in my lifetime, but if it did ever happen to me, my initial reaction would still be disgruntlement, and I wouldn't accept it.

I don't think the fact that your translation was sent to a proofreader necessarily says anything at all about the quality of your translation! This is standard practice for many translation agencies - and a good one at that!

I only hat the same job offer by 2 different clients.
What I find really annoying with my texts being proofread is that the changes made to the original translations often reduce the quality, and the client only sees the number of changes and thinks the translator did a poor job. But I'm aware this is off-topic right now.

I was asked to translate exactly the same gambling-related text by two different agencies. I was also asked to proofread three different translations of exactly the same text by three different agencies (it was a test translation for a pretty big gaming project).

It hasn't happened ... yet.
I'm not sure that I would proofread my own translation for one client and then send back to me by another. But only time will tell.

... but it happened almost the other way round.
I was asked to to a technical translation from an agency, and my offer was refused because "your price is too high!"
After twoo weeks, I received the translation of this very text for a proofreading job from another cooperator. It was... simply ugly :S
Thus the final client had to pay firsty for a bad translation, and then for my proofreading. I believe it was pretty much higher than my first offer. Well, I hope this was a ... See more

If it ever happened, though, I'd e-mail back saying that it was an absolutely brilliant, flawless translation and that the translator deserved to be paid double his normal rate.
Then, after a smiley or two, I'd admit that I was the translator!

I can't quite understand how client B would have a job I had previously done for another client A and then need it proofread. But apparently it has happened.
In any case, all the jobs I deliver have already been proofread by me.
