Hello, my major customer switched to Studio2009 and I must use it now. I unfortunatelly hate that SW and would like to bypass it and work in Trados 2007. Is there any way how to do it? I receive Studio 2009 packages. Thanks a lot.

If you have a chance to ask your customer for exported memories and SDLXLIFF instead, you can translate the files with MemoQ, although there are still a couple of things Kilgray have to polish in the compatibility.

OK, but if you really dislike using the tool, why don't you just tell your customer and ask them to send you exported memories and SDLXLIFF files?
I sincerely think it's best to be honest in this case.

I am affraid it is impossible. I have already tried to talk to them. Besides, even if they did send me the required files it would mean to learn another SW which is a nonsense at the moment. I do know how to deal with Studio. I just hate it and prefer Trados 2007. The aim of my question was to work in Trados 2007. Thanks a lot for your answers. I really appreciate them.

memoQ can open SDLXLIFF files but only supports the text, and would also need a TMX export of the SDLTM. If the Agency sends files with locked segments, or comments, for example then memoQ will completely ignore this and the Translator won't have all the relevant information to handle the files correc... In my opinion, for a user who has no tools that are capable of working properly with files being sent from an Agency or anywhere else then the better option would be to use the Starter Edition which Sabina probably has in her account. This will handle the Package correctly.
Of course you could ask the Agency to unpick everything they purchased Studio for, but how does this deliver value for them?

I simply wanted to show Sabina that there are other alternatives! Indeed MemoQ's filter for SDLXLIFF files is still not quite there, but I trust that it will be better in the middle run.

OK, OK! I just thought I'd widen your perspective a little bit.
I think that in this situation... you will have to either drop the customer (not a good climate to do that now, I reckon), or use Studio if they don't offer any other alternative.

I would LOVE to drop this customer and hopefully will one day but unfortunately it is impossible to do it immediately.

Are you a child or a professional translator? Would you be a child, I would understand, but hating something is not really very professional.

I hate this kind of comments!
Now, seriously: I don't see how expressing an opinion in a passionate manner among colleagues and friends (the spirit that should rule in Proz.com) is incompatible with being a perfect professional.
Now, would it be childish to say "I love Studio 2009"? Yet "hate" and "love" are opposite ends of a common line on a same register. I think people should be free to express dislike for a tool. It's what makes their developers improve! The tone is irrelevant in my opinion.

I love Studio and would never want to go back to 2007.
I really started to like it when I started using the filtering capabilities. Dealing with all the numbers in a file at one time is fantastic, as is comparing all instances of a word root.
I wish I had a client who sent me packages!

I had to switch back to Suite 2007 because one of my major clients revealed to me that their DTP department did not have Studio and it would be very helpful if I could send them the bilingual Word file instead of the Studio file. I think when you receive a poorly formatted Word file, working with the Word file in Workbench usually gets ugly. I really miss how Multiterm works with Studio where it lists all the terms instead of one at a time with Suite. I haven't tried out AutoSuggest yet, which seems to be a time saver, too, if it's configured properly.
