Heute Abend steigt das wichtigste Ereignis des Jahres - für Astronomen. Während 22 Fußballer im WM-Finale in Südafrika den Weltmeister ermitteln, werden Tausende Himmelsfreunde auf der anderen Seite der Erde ein noch viel schöneres Schauspiel bewundern: eine totale Sonnenfinsternis.
Um 20 Uhr 15 unserer Zeit ist Anpfiff: Dann trifft der Kernschatten des Mondes die Erdoberfläche im Pazifischen Ozean nordöstlich von Neuseeland. Zwar ist der Schattenkegel des Mondes gut 250 Kilometer breit und die totale Phase mit mehr als fünf Minuten Dauer recht lang. Doch während der Mondschatten über die schier endlosen Weiten des Ozeans streicht, sind die Cook-Inseln und die Osterinsel die einzigen Landmassen, die er trifft.
Die mehr als 600 geheimnisvollen riesigen Steinskulpturen auf der Osterinsel werden schon viel erlebt haben. Doch es ist das erste Mal, dass sie vom Mondschatten berührt werden. Die letzte totale Sonnenfinsternis fand dort im Jahr 591 statt, lange bevor die Polynesier die Figuren errichtet haben.
In Europa ist von der Finsternis nichts zu sehen, nicht einmal eine partielle Phase. In den Genuss zumindest einer teilweisen Verfinsterung der Sonne kommt praktisch der gesamte Südpazifik und ein Teil Südamerikas.
Unmittelbar vor dem Ende der Finsternis gegen viertel vor elf erreicht der Mondschatten doch noch den Süden Chiles und Argentiniens. Im WM-Finale könnte es zu dieser Zeit gerade ins Elfmeterschießen gehen - und Spötter werden die Finsternis womöglich als himmlische Bestätigung dafür deuten, dass in Argentinien die Lichter ausgegangen sind.

Вечер 11 июля 2010 года стал самым важным событием этого года, по крайней мере для астрономов. В то время как 22 футболиста в Южной Африке боролись за кубок мира, несколько тысяч друзей неба на другой стороне Земли наблюдали намного более красивое и удивительное зрелище: полное солнечное затмение.
В 20:15 по нашему времени прозвучал сигнал свистка к началу состязания: в этот момент тень от Луны «встретилась» с поверхностью Земли в районе Тихого Океана на северо-восток от Новой Зеландии. И хотя конус тени Луны имеет аж 250 км в ширину, период полной фазы затмения составляет всего чуть более 5 минут. И поэтому острова Кука и Остров Пасхи оказались единственными участками земной тверди в безграничном океане, которые попали в довольно большое по площади пятно тени от нашего спутника.
Более чем шестьсот огромных загадочных каменных фигур на острове Пасхи повидали уже многое. Однако впервые их покой потревожила лунная тень. Последнее полное солнечное затмение происходило тут в 591 году, задолго до того, как полинезийцы соорудили каменные статуи (предположительно, в IX веке).
В Европе не то что полного, но даже частичного затмения заметно не было. Наслаждаться хотя бы частичным затмением могли жители практически всей южной части Тихого Океана и части Южной Америки. Непосредственно перед концом затмения около 22:45 тень Луны достигла юга Чили и Аргентины (около 17 часов по местному времени).
Как раз в это время финал чемпионата мира по футболу подходил ко времени пенальти. А футбольные фанаты, знакомые с астрономией, могли бы шутить, что затмение это подтверждение того, что в Аргентине уже погасли светила.

I enjoy translating. It's been almost 20 years that I have been learning English - 10 years at a specialized school, 5 years at the Uni and 6 years at work (I started to work at my 3d year of the Uni).
I adore foreign languages and I have good translation skills. I am not a qualified translator, but I have studied English and German at a specialized school and in the Uni, at present I am using English and German daily at work.
At school and in the Uni I translated hundreds of texts, articles and Internet sites. My major was international relations, so we had extensive language cources at the University. I have done several scientific researches in English. Also, I participated in several language contests and took 1-3 places.
At work I deal with American and German partners daily, so I have to translate their emails to my Ukrainian colleagues and vice versa. I take the calls and I provide sales support via phone to clients all over the world. So, I speak English fluently, and I gave good writing and reading skills of German.
I daily improve my knowledge by reading German books in the original and listening to German podcasts. Also I have many friends and pen-pals in Germany, whom I regularly get in touch with.
As a native-speaker I am fluent in Russian and Ukrainian too.
