Eu gostaria de propor a você um exercício de imaginação. Pense num lugar em que a vida fosse diferente de tudo que você possa conhecer. Um lugar como o da história de Alice no país das maravilhas. Você consegue imaginar esse lugar, no qual uma pessoa poderia estar em “dois lugares” ao mesmo tempo? Para onde você viajaria? Antes de chegar ao seu destino, você teria a possibilidade de escolher outro caminho, saindo da mesma origem em que você estava? Nesse “lugar”, você poderia retroceder no tempo e para consertar as decisões erradas que, por acaso, você tivesse tomado.
Isso não seria fantástico?
Você consegue imaginar um lugar onde todas as plantas e os seres vivos são programados tendo em vista uma matriz adulta perfeita, permitindo que você saiba para onde está indo e qual potencial irá atingir?
Em nosso Universo, o crescimento dos seres vivos se dá pelo potencial genético determinado. Sabemos por referência quem são nossos progenitores e, consequentemente, até onde poderemos chegar projetando-nos neles. Mas, como normalmente os seres vivos são resultados de cruzamentos genéticos, ainda que o pai seja mais baixo, o filho poderá alcançar uma estatura mais alta por consequência da descendência materna. Já nesse imaginário “país das maravilhas”, a realidade é outra: o campo genético fica projetado à sua frente, permitindo que você saiba até que ponto poderá crescer e qual o potencial máximo que você pode atingir. Tal característica, é claro, facilita o desenvolvimento e até mesmo a correção das possíveis imperfeições que traríamos.
Você consegue imaginar um país sem notícias negativas, sem o veneno proveniente das fofocas e inveja? Você pode imaginar ainda um mundo onde as pessoas não se expõem às más notícias que as levam a depressões e destruições? Isso porque elas são conscientes de que essa energia negativa prejudica não apenas “os outros”, mas também a elas mesmas – e, por fim, o Universo por inteiro. É preciso ter consciência de que todas as emoções produzem consequências tanto para o bem quanto para o mal. E é por isto que sons, imagens e notícias precisam ser filtrados. Experiências com o DNA humano mostraram que, mesmo separadas de seu doador por dezenas de quilômetros, as pessoas reagem e se alteram exatamente como seu doador reagiria ao ser exposto àquelas emoções semelhantes.
Pense também num mundo sem essa energia negativa, sem essa poluição emocional. Um local no qual a natureza responde intrínseca e diretamente às palavras, aos atos e às ações dos seres vivos. E onde, consequentemente, essa natureza age, reage e interage com o ser vivo como uma extensão de si.
Você pode estar imaginando que estamos falando de ficção – ou que a idealização desse lugar se refere ao Jardim do
Éden perdido. A grande descoberta que você fará nas próximas páginas deste livro é que esse “lugar” está bem ali: trata-se do universo imperceptível que está ao nosso redor, silenciosamente.
Um universo que interage conosco de forma pacífica e paciente, aguardando a humanidade perceber a sua existência e verdadeira dimensão. Esse “lugar” é nada mais, nada menos, que o mundo invisível aos nossos olhos, o vazio que nos rodeia ou o mundo do aparente “nada”. O mundo que nos hospeda, o qual habitamos e de onde tiramos nossa energia e nossa força.

Em busca de respostas sobre a origem da vida e da data de sua criação, a física quântica, recentemente, conseguiu penetrar este mundo do micro e do macrocosmo, por meio de experimentos e de equipamentos avançados. A ciência busca saber por que estamos aqui e para onde vamos, e essa busca incessante tem norteado a maioria dos estudos científicos e, consequentemente, suas descobertas. Essa busca é o ponto central que resultou em muitas teorias, que acabaram contribuindo para o mais alto nível de qualidade da vida da história humana.
Amigo leitor, você poderá vislumbrar um mundo que talvez nunca imaginasse existir.
As pessoas que acreditam “na fé e na espiritualidade” perceberão em complemento que o estudo apresentado aqui é uma confirmação da realidade na qual acreditam e convivem há muito – mas que, até agora, era baseada apenas no subjetivismo espiritual e hipóteses, e não em conhecimento científico. Para aqueles que são “da ciência” e que estão chegando a essas conclusões somente agora, essas descobertas têm trazido uma nova percepção e até mesmo um “grande golpe” em suas “certezas” científicas e materialistas – pois a ciência tem sido confrontada com a possibilidade da existência de um tipo de realidade com a qual ela não estava preparada para lidar e que extrapola muito o determinismo materialista que até então se implantou em nossa civilização.

Para mim, que sou cristão, que tramito no mundo da fé e que tive o privilégio de estudar física, é fantástico perceber a dimensão destes dois mundos. O mundo da ciência, baseado em experimentos, em asserções científicas; e o mundo da fé e da
espiritualidade, baseado em toda uma sabedoria milenar e uma contribuição inegável à humanidade.
Neste livro, você terá a possibilidade de perceber que as duas propostas confluem, se alinham, se somam e não competem e
nem se anulam.
O objetivo deste livro é mostrar que a verdadeira e real ciência pode andar de mãos dadas com a verdadeira fé e espiritualidade. Que elas não entram em conflito, a não ser na arrogância de seus defensores mais exaltados.
Acredito que, em busca de respostas às grandes perguntas da nossa existência, precisamos nos abrir para os novos conhecimentos e pesquisas, pois a humildade precede a sabedoria, e a sabedoria precede o conhecimento. Não existe conhecimento sem pesquisa, e não existe pesquisa sem curiosidade. A humildade é a mãe da curiosidade. Ela é a capacidade de considerar que o depósito de conhecimento e da compreensão atual é importante, mas não suficiente para agregar novos capítulos à nossa história e à humanidade. Graças a uma investigação contínua, chegamos até aqui. Nosso desejo é que possamos avançar, pois há muito ainda a se descobrir, há muito que se alcançar.
Tenho pensado neste livro há bastante tempo, pois via a necessidade de um compêndio organizado e sistematizado sobre o qual pudéssemos refletir sobre a ciência e sua evolução, desde antes de Platão e dos primeiros filósofos que trabalhavam a teoria atômica (como Leucipo e Demócrito) até os mais recentes físicos que têm se desdobrado sobre as teorias da física quântica e cosmologia em busca de uma teoria capaz de explicar o mistério da vida e do Universo.
Meu desejo é que você, meu amigo, possa penetrar nesse mundo maravilhoso das recentes descobertas da física quântica e ver que ela não se desalinha da propositura da fé e da espiritualidade. Ao contrário, elas se somam e se explicam. Em alguns momentos, elas estão falando a mesma verdade, apenas em idiomas diferentes. Que tenhamos a capacidade de discernir tais idiomas, de ouvir tais alegações, interpretá-las e compreendê-las.
Este livro contém citações dos mais diversos cientistas a respeito de Deus, da fé, da espiritualidade, do misticismo e até da interpretação de textos bíblicos e demais temas religiosos – citações estas que não refletem necessariamente a opinião do autor. Como este é primordialmente um livro científico, todas as abordagens devem ser encaradas como posições científicas, teológicas ou bíblicas provenientes de seus próprios autores. Até porque, como teólogo cristão, minha posição teológica se distancia muito de quase todos os especialistas citados aqui.
As posições de cientistas como Amit Goswami – físico hinduísta que por mais de três décadas foi professor titular de física teórica da Universidade de Oregon e que inclusive acredita na reencarnação. Ou as posições de Danah Zohar e outros, sem posicionamento religioso algum, que são relevantes contribuições para a espiritualização da ciência. Porém, ao citá-los ou abordá-los, precisamos ter a obrigação científica de separar seus posicionamentos religiosos dos postulados científicos que defendem – exatamente como fazíamos ao depararmos com competentes professores e mestres cientistas com posicionamentos religiosos diferentes dos nossos em nossos anos acadêmicos.
Todos os nomes aqui pesquisados e incluídos de alguma forma contribuíram para transpor a barreira da ciência materialis-
ta em busca da espiritualização da existência sem preconceitos. Isto é o que há de mais importante em todo este ensaio.
É interessante como nos acostumamos a ouvir apenas as vozes de um mundo material, que normalmente está “fora de nós”.
É um mundo de “coisas”, de desertos de sentido e propósito. Mas precisamos aprender a ouvir também a voz de nosso coração. E, melhor do que tudo, harmonizá-la a nossa razão.
Há uma exortação fantástica no livro de Jó, capítulo 12, versículos 7 a 9, que diz: “Pergunte aos animais, e eles te ensinarão, e às aves dos céus, e elas te farão saber, ou fala com a Terra, e ela te ensinará, e até os peixes do mar te declararão.”
O verso das Escrituras Sagradas supracitado reforça o que o Salmo 19:1 diz: “Os céus proclamam a glória de Deus, e o firmamento anuncia as obras de suas mãos.” Ou seja, a natureza tem, sim, muito a nos ensinar.
Como escrevi no meu livro A Energia da Vida (Sara Brasil Edições, 2012), aprendi bem cedo a ouvir o som do silêncio, nos meses de solidão que passava na lida com a natureza na fazenda de meu pai. Todos os anos, durante o período de férias escolares, eu ficava no ambiente da fazenda. E ali aprendi a observar o Cruzeiro do Sul, as Três Marias, estrelas que se espalham no céu. Percebi pelo canto das cigarras que as chuvas estavam sendo anunciadas e aguardadas por toda a natureza. E também aprendi a acompanhar a migração dos milhares de pássaros que cruzavam os céus, fugindo do início do inverno, todos os anos.
Isso tudo aconteceu antes mesmo de eu ter uma experiência sobrenatural que impactou minha vida e que me trouxe para uma percepção além da materialidade. Nela, a majestade e a imponência do Universo alcançaram uma grandeza em sua voz e sua capacidade de nos ensinar solenemente.
Após um período de conflito em minha vida, causado por problemas familiares, como o distanciamento de meu pai, envolvimento com bebidas etc., finalmente fui a um retiro espiritual, onde, após uma ministração, sentado à beira de uma fogueira, na solidão de uma noite, algo “sobrenatural” me envolveu.
Foram horas e horas imerso naquele ambiente, onde ouvi uma voz de outro mundo, e eu sabia que era a voz de Jesus Cristo, e isso me levou à absoluta certeza de que existe um mundo além da vida material que nos rodeia.
Anos depois, descobri, nas palavras de Paul Davies, professor de filosofia natural no Centro Australiano de Astrobiologia na Universidade de Macquirie, em Sidney, doutor pela Universidade de Londres e autor do livro A mente de Deus (Ediouro, 1994), que “quase todos os cientistas nutrem um respeito e quase uma veneração pelo mistério deste assombroso Universo” – a começar pelo mundo manifesto pela natureza próxima a nós, que nos envolve como um cobertor de energia e fótons que nos traspassam incessantemente.
Na verdade, esta vida tão estressante e tão imersa nos problemas do dia a dia acaba nos arrastando como uma torrente, e tentamos sobreviver. Mas essa vida é mais fugaz e sutil do que parece.
Na luta pela sobrevivência, estabelecemos algumas certezas – como, por exemplo, “todos os dias o Sol vai nascer”; “o céu será sempre azul em dias claros”; “o Sol estará sempre disponível a emitir seus raios e nos aquecer”. Mas estes postulados tão absolutos podem não ter toda essa onipotência imaginada por nós. Contudo, quando examinadas do ponto de vista científico, todas estas realidades inquestionáveis não se tornam tão reais assim.
O azul do céu, por exemplo, é apenas uma percepção da refração dos raios solares em nossos olhos. A difusão da luz acontece devido às partículas que formam o ar. Cada cor que forma a luz do Sol se espalhará de acordo com seu comprimento de onda. A azul tem menor comprimento e isto faz com que ela fique mais visível. No final da tarde, a luz do Sol incide obliquamente e força os raios a fazerem um caminho mais longo. Este fato seleciona a luz vermelha, que tem comprimento maior, e faz com que o azul desapareça completamente – a luz azul sofre
uma difusão 9,38 vezes maior do que a vermelha. Nossos olhos percebem o resultado de tudo isso por refração.
O Sol não se levanta: nosso planeta, na verdade, é que deu a volta em torno de seu eixo e permite, assim, que a vida se desenvolva aqui, “pegando carona” nesta energia liberada pelo astro rei.
É fascinante podermos viver e existir. É a maior e mais bela de todas as experiências humanas. Apenas existir!
Podermos vislumbrar toda esta dimensão tão onipotente e ao mesmo tempo tão ilusória – da mesma forma que essa realidade desenhada para nós, seres humanos e inteligentes, mas tão frágeis e dependentes das reações biológicas, como o oxigênio para respirarmos, a água para bebermos e a comida para nos alimentarmos. É curioso como somos tão pequenos, animalescos e dependentes biologicamente destes circuitos precisos, e ao mesmo tempo podemos “viajar” em nossas mentes e inteligência, extrapolando qualquer limite e ultrapassando as barreiras tanto do microcosmo, das partículas subatômicas, quanto do mundo macrocósmico, dos planetas e galáxias.
Construímos nossas vidas através desta realidade de um “eterno presente”, que sobrepõe o ontem e o amanhã.
O deslizar de nossos dias, correndo como as águas de um riacho, é apenas um frágil manto. Uma leve brisa que se mistura à nossa memória.
Desvendar esta realidade, compreendê-la e harmonizar-nos em seu seio é um dos maiores desafios que temos esta jornada de vida.
E este livro é uma tentativa de penetrar neste mundo sutil e fugaz da subjetividade.
É uma proposta de vislumbrarmos além do véu da materialidade que nos envolve a cada dia e a cada momento.
É um esforço para que possamos fazer esta viagem imaginária, além de nossos limites físicos e palpáveis, adentrando o mundo da espiritualidade.
É um convite para que o leitor viaje na história e possa ser capaz de conhecer as ideias, os pensamentos, os conceitos e a evolução tanto da história da ciência quanto da Igreja e da religiosidade.

Quantum Physics and God
I would like to propose an exercise in imagination. Think of a place where life is unlike anything you can possibly know. A place like in the story of Alice in Wonderland. Can you imagine such a place, in which a person could be in "two places" at the same time? Where would you travel to? Before reaching your destination, you would have the possibility of choosing another path, leaving from the same starting point where you were? In this "place" you could go back in time and amend wrong decisions that you may have made.
Wouldn't that be amazing?
Can you imagine a place where all plants and living beings are programmed to become a perfect adult matrix, letting you know where it is headed for and what potential it will achieve?
In our Universe, the growth of living beings occurs through determined genetic potential. We know from reference who our forebears are and therefore how far we can go by projecting ourselves on them. However, as living beings are normally the result of genetic crossings, even if the parent is shorter, the child may achieve a taller stature in consequence of the matrilineal descent. Whereas in this imaginary "wonderland", the reality is different: the genetic field is projected in front of you, letting you know how far you can grow and what is the maximum potential you can achieve. This characteristic, of course, facilitates the development and even the correction of possible imperfections that we could bear.
Can you imagine a country without negative news, without the poison of gossip and jealousy? Can you even imagine a world where people are not exposed to the bad news that lead to depression and destruction? This is because they are aware that this negative energy is harmful not only to "their fellow creature", but also to themselves - and eventually to the Universe as a whole. One must be aware that all emotions produce consequences, for better or worse. And this is why sounds, images and news have to be filtered. Experiments with human DNA have shown that, even when tens of miles away from their [organ] donor, people react and change just as their donor would when exposed to similar emotions.
Think as well of a world without this negative energy, without this emotional pollution. A place where nature responds intrinsically and directly to the words, acts and actions of living beings; consequently, a place where this nature acts, reacts and interacts with the living being as an extension of itself.
You may be wondering by now that we are talking about fiction – or that the idealization of this place refers to the lost Garden of Eden. The greatest discovery you will make in the following pages of this book is that this "place" is closer than you think: it is the unperceivable universe around us, silently.
A universe that interacts with us in a peaceful and patient way, waiting for humanity to realize its existence and true scale. This "place" is nothing more, nothing less than the world invisible to our eyes, the emptiness that surrounds us or the world of apparent "nothing." The world that hosts us, in which we inhabit and from which we obtain our energy and strength.
In the following pages, you will watch the unfolding of all the arguments that have been mentioned here; and you will be able to confirm that they are all true.
We live in a world divided into at least three realities: the world wherein we coexist, which is the dimension of life and human existence; the macrocosmic world, which is the world of galaxies, planets and large dimensions; and also the microscopic, atomic and subatomic world, of small and infinitesimal dimensions that combined contribute to the formation of the other worlds mentioned.
Reality is not just what we see, grope, feel or in which we live. It is much bigger, more complex and mysterious than we can imagine or perceive with our sight or through devices.
In the search for answers about the origin of life and the date of its creation, quantum physics recently managed to penetrate this world of microcosm and macrocosm, through experiments and advanced equipment. Science seeks to know why we are here and where we are headed for and that incessant search has guided most of the scientific studies and therefore their findings. This quest is the central point from which resulted many theories, which eventually contributed to the highest level of quality of life in human history.
Dear reader, you will be able to have a glimpse of a world that may have never been imagined to exist.
People who believe in "faith and spirituality" will perceive that the study presented here is a complement and an acknowledgment of the reality in which they believe and have lived with for long – but which so far has been solely based on spiritual subjectivism and hypotheses rather than scientific knowledge. For those who are "of science" and who are coming to these conclusions only now, these discoveries have brought new insight and even a "heavy blow" to their scientific and materialistic "certainties". This is so because science has been faced with the possible existence of a kind of reality it was not prepared to handle and that greatly extrapolates the materialistic determinism that has thus far taken roots in our civilization.
As you read each chapter and each of the essays and experiments that follow, you will plunge into an unimaginable world. You will find out as well that life, with all its beauty and complexity, goes beyond ordinary man’s common sense imagination. And you will realize that much of what we used to think of as fiction is arguably just the tip of a large iceberg – of hitherto unseen and unperceivable realities, though real and active, which silently assist us and accompany us.
You will unveil the whole journey and trajectory of faith and spirituality and science and how they have developed in recent decades.
Dear reader, our desire is that you have a glimpse of a world much larger, more mysterious and wonderful than you could have imagined up until now. Note that in silence and stillness the universe accompanies and watches us over. Discover that it is alive and active and has the intrinsic ability of relating to and reacting with the nature that nestles in its bosom.
To me as a Christian, who tread in the world of faith and who had the privilege of studying physics, it is amazing to realize the magnitude of these two worlds. The world of science, based on experiments and scientific assertions, and the world of faith and spirituality, based on an entirely ancient wisdom and undeniable contribution to humanity.
In this book, you will have the chance to realize that the two proposals converge, align, add up and do not compete or annul one another.
The aim of this book is to show that true and real science can go hand in hand with true faith and spirituality. They do not conflict except in the arrogance of their most exalted defenders.
I believe that in the search for answers to the big questions of our existence, we must open ourselves to new knowledge and research, for humbleness precedes wisdom, and wisdom precedes knowledge. There is no knowledge without research, and no research without curiosity. Humbleness is the mother of curiosity. It is the ability to consider that the knowledge and understanding currently in stock is important but not enough to add new chapters to our history and humanity. Thanks to ongoing research, we have come thus far. Our desire is that we are able to move forward as there is much to be discovered and there is much yet to be achieved.
I have been thinking of this book for a long time, because I saw the need for an organized and systematic compendium where we could reflect on science and its evolution. This trajectory comprises from before Plato and the early philosophers who worked on the atomic theory (such as Leucippus and Democritus) to more recent physicists, who unfolded the theories of quantum physics and cosmology in the search for a theory that could explain the mystery of life and the universe.
My wish is that you, my friend, can penetrate this wonderful world of recent discoveries of quantum physics and see that it is not misaligned from the proposition of faith and spirituality. On the contrary, they complement and explain one another. In a few moments, they will be speaking the same truth, only in different languages. May we have the ability to discern such languages, to hear such claims, interpret them and understand them.
This book contains quotes from various scientists about God, faith, spirituality, mysticism, and even the interpretation of biblical texts and other religious themes – quotes that do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the author. As this is primarily a scientific book, all approaches shall be seen as scientific, theological or biblical positions from their respective authors. All the more so because, as a Christian theologian, my theological position is well distanced from almost all experts quoted here.
The positions of scientists such as Amit Goswami – Hindu physicist who was a tenured professor of theoretical physics for over three decades at the University of Oregon and even believed in reincarnation. Or the positions of Danah Zohar and others, without any religious position, who gave relevant contributions to the spiritualization of science. However, when quoting or approaching them, we need to have the scientific obligation of separating their religious positions from the scientific postulates they defend – just as we used to do when faced with competent professors and scientists whose religious positions differed from ours in our academic years.
All names researched and included here somehow contributed to overcome the barrier of materialistic science in the search for the spiritualization of existence without prejudice. This is what is most important in this entire essay.
It is interesting how we are accustomed to hear only the voices of a material world, which is usually "outside of us."
It is a world of "things", of deserts of meaning and purpose. However, we must also learn to listen to the voice of our hearts, and, best of all, harmonize it with our reason.
There is a fantastic exhortation in the book of Job, chapter 12, verses 7-9, which say: "Ask the beasts, and they shall teach thee; and the fowls of the air, and they shall tell thee: Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach thee: and the fishes of the sea shall declare unto thee."
The above verses of the Holy Scripture reinforces what the Psalm 19:1 says: "The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky proclaims the work of his hands." In other words, nature does have much to teach us.
As I wrote in my book A Energia da Vida (Sara Brasil Edições, 2012), early in life I learned to listen to the sound of silence, in the months of solitude spent toiling with nature in my father's farm. Every year, I spent my school vacations in a farm environment. There I learned to watch the Southern Cross, and the Three Marias, stars that spread across the sky. I realized from the buzzing of the cicadas that rains were being announced and were anticipated by the whole nature. And I also learned to follow the migration of thousands of birds that crossed the skies, fleeing from the onset of winter every year.
This all happened even before I had had a supernatural experience that affected my life and brought me to a realization beyond materiality. In it, the majesty and magnificence of the universe achieved grandeur in its voice and its ability to teach us solemnly.
After a period of conflict in my life, caused by family problems, such as my father's aloofness and drinking problems etc., I finally went to a spiritual retreat, where, after a ministration, sitting by the fire in the loneliness of night, something "supernatural" involved me.
For hours and hours, I was immersed in that environment, where I heard a voice from another world, and I knew it was the voice of Jesus Christ, and this led me to the absolute certainty that there is a world beyond the material life that surrounds us.
Years later, I discovered, in the words of Paul Davies, professor of Natural Philosophy in the Australian Centre for Astrobiology at the University of Macquirie in Sydney, doctor from the University of London and author of the book The mind of God (Simon & Schuster UK, 1992), that "almost all scientists nurture a respect on the verge of reverence for the mystery of this amazing Universe" - starting with the manifest world of nature next to us, surrounding us like a blanket of energy and photons trespassing us incessantly.
In fact, this life is so stressful and so immersed in every day’s problems that it ends up dragging us like a torrent, and we try to survive. However, this life is more fleeting and subtle than it seems.
In the struggle for survival, we establish some certainties – such as, for instance, "every day the sun will rise", "the sky is always blue on clear days", "the sun will always be available to emit its rays and heat." However, such absolute assumptions may not hold all that omnipotence imagined by us; when examined from the scientific standpoint, all these undeniable realities do not prove to be all that real.
The blue sky, for example, is just a perception of sunlight refraction in our eyes. The diffusion of light is due to the particles forming the air. Each color forming the sunlight will spread according to its wavelength. Blue has a shorter length and this causes it to be more visible. In the late afternoon, sunlight falls obliquely and forces the rays to take a longer path. This fact selects the red light, which has a longer length, and causes the blue to completely disappear – the blue light undergoes a diffusion 9.38 times larger than the red one. Our eyes perceive the result of it through refraction.
The Sun does not rise: it is our planet that actually revolves around its axis and thus allows life to develop here, "hitchhiking" on this energy released by the Sun.
It is fascinating to be able to live and exist. It is the greatest and most beautiful of all human experiences. To simply exist!
We can have a glimpse of this whole dimension, so omnipotent and yet so elusive – in the same way as this reality designed for us, human and intelligent beings, although so fragile and dependent on biological reactions, such as oxygen to breathe, water to drink and food to be nourished. It is curious how small, animalistic and dependent on these biologically accurate circuits we are, and at the same time we can "travel" in our minds and intelligence, beyond any limit and surpass the barriers of both the microcosm of subatomic particles and the macrocosmic world of planets and galaxies.
We build our lives through this reality of an "eternal present", which superimposes yesterday and tomorrow.
The sliding of our days, running like the waters of a stream, is but a flimsy mantle. A slight breeze that blends into our memory.
Unravelling this reality, understanding it and harmonizing ourselves in its bosom is one of the biggest challenges that we have in this life's journey.
And this book is an attempt to penetrate this subtle and elusive world of subjectivity.
It is a proposal of glimpsing beyond the veil of materiality that surrounds us every day and at every moment.
It is an effort so that we can take this imaginary trip, beyond our physical and palpable limits, treading into the world of spirituality.
It is an invitation for the reader to travel in history and to be able to learn ideas, thoughts, concepts and evolution of both the history of science and the Church and religiosity.
I hope that, without any prejudice, may we envision both this wonderful and invisible world and its lessons for our lives and our existence in this visible place.

Sistemas de telecomunicações de aplicação da Lei (Law Enforcement Telecommunications Systems – LETS) devem levar em conta o risco real representado por grupos específicos, levando em consideração fatores como o nível de periculosidade de seus elementos e os tipos de infrações cometidas por cada um, entre outros. Assim, é relevante desenhar algoritmos capazes de fornecer dados para subsidiar a análise de risco e a tomada de decisão nesse contexto. Objetiva-se desse modo auxiliar a geração de alertas informando prováveis formações de motins, preparação para ações criminosas, entre outras atividades suspeitas. Identificar antecipadamente tais riscos mostra-se particularmente importante em épocas de grandes eventos sociais como, por exemplo, as Olimpíadas deste ano no Brasil.
A contribuição focal do presente artigo é a concepção de um conjunto de algoritmos articulados, constituindo um modelo sistêmico capaz de processar os dados provenientes da rede para: 1) verificar proximidades (Detecção de Pares), 2) agrupar dispositivos próximos em clusters (Detecção de Grupos) e 3) registrar duração de grupos e quantidade média de elementos agrupados (Detecção de Riscos). Contribuições adicionais são descritas quanto aos aspectos de implementação e de desempenho desses algoritmos. Tais algoritmos são aplicáveis em outras situações como, por exemplo, agrupamentos de animais em florestas.
O restante deste artigo tem a seguinte organização: A Secção II discute os trabalhos relacionados. A Seção III caracteriza o problema da detecção de agrupamentos e introduz o modelo sistêmico da solução proposta. A Seção IV apresenta a análise do modelo sistêmico e dos resultados algoritmos em ambiente simulado. Já a Seção V conclui este artigo e apresenta possíveis trabalhos futuros.
I. TRABALHOS RELACIONADOS
Artigos que tratam do processamento geográfico de pontos e a identificação de clusters baseiam-se em geral na procura de concentração de pontos analisando sua distribuição. Porém, não levam em consideração a necessidade específica de identificar indivíduos reunidos a partir de pontos que estão dentro de uma distância mínima que caracterize a reunião. Sem tal consideração, a concentração detectada pode referir-se a pontos separados por distâncias até da ordem de quilômetros e não de alguns poucos metros, o que foge ao conceito de reunião ou encontro de pessoas monitoradas.
Liu et al. [3] aborda algoritmos que identificam clusters de objetos classificados em categorias, considerando aspectos puramente geográficos ou outros atributos associados. Aborda principalmente o algoritmo “density-based spatial clustering” (DBSC) que identifica clusters usando tanto a proximidade espacial quanto a similaridade de atributos. O DBSC envolve a construção de relacionamentos de proximidades entre pontos obtidos por meio da triangulação de Delaunay [4].
Carlino [5] argumenta sobre a influência da proximidade física de laboratórios de pesquisa e desenvolvimento (P&D) na repercussão do conhecimento na área de concentração dos mesmos. Para tanto, compara a localização dos laboratórios no território dos EUA com o registro de patentes na mesma área, evidenciando sua ligação. Então, aborda uma maneira de medir a extensão da concentração espacial das atividades dos laboratórios e definir o cluster formado pelos laboratórios próximos, considerando um círculo em volta de cada ponto de localização, com um raio inicial de um quarto de milha. Em seguida, enumera a quantidade de pontos dentro do círculo. Como resultado, muitos círculos se sobrepõem formando o cluster a ser analisado e comparado com o registro de patentes.
Já o algoritmo DBSCAN [6] busca a identificação de clusters com diversos tipos de objetos geográficos (pontos, polígonos, linhas, etc.). Cada grupo adjacente em um dado raio contém pelo menos um número mínimo de pontos, ou seja, sua densidade extrapola algum limite, o que deixa claro que o processamento é executado ponto a ponto utilizando a relação de distância entre pontos conforme também proposto no presente trabalho. O artigo propõe estimar o valor da distância para diferenciar a ideia de concentração de pontos da ideia de pontos dispersos, fora da concentração (ruídos).
Os trabalhos supracitados, até por estarem desvinculados da questão dos LETS, não atendem a requisitos do problema abordado no presente artigo, ou seja: 1) não consideram a evolução do grupo no tempo, identificando a duração da concentração de pontos e o tamanho (quantidade de pontos) do grupo, 2) não possuem tempo limite de processamento e identificação dos clusters, e 3) alguns algoritmos não impõem um limite de distância mínima entre pontos dos clusters.
Por outro lado, o trabalho em [7] trata das questões de criação e manutenção de uma base de dados em PostgreSQL com a extensão PostGIS, armazenando dados geográficos transmitidos por sensores localizados na Itália. Descreve as etapas de criação da base de dados e as tabelas necessárias para demonstração e armazenamento de dados geográficos. O presente artigo complementa tal análise com maior detalhamento do banco de dados e requisitos de implementação para validar os algoritmos aqui apresentados.
II. DESCRIÇÃO DO PROBLEMA E MODELO SISTÊMICO
Dadas as coordenadas GPS coletadas de pontos de presença de dispositivos monitorados em uma rede como a da Figura 1, a caracterização de uma reunião é o problema para o qual este artigo propõe uma possível solução, tal como descrito abaixo.
A. Problema
A concentração de tais pontos em uma área geográfica não necessariamente indica um agrupamento de indivíduos reunidos, na ótica do monitoramento de pessoas para aplicação da Lei. Por exemplo, para certa concentração de pontos em uma área do espaço geográfico, cuja menor distância encontrada é de 1 km, não se pode afirmar que os monitorados estão realmente reunidos apesar de observar-se a concentração inclusive visualmente no mapa. De fato, para que dois ou mais monitorados sejam considerados reunidos em um grupo, deve haver uma distância mínima estabelecida entre os pontos que os representam.

Law Enforcement Telecommunications Systems - LETS should take into account the actual risk posed by specific groups, taking into consideration factors such as the danger level posed by its elements and the types of offenses committed by each of them, among others. Therefore, it is important to design algorithms that provide data in order to corroborate risk assessments and decision making in this context. The objective is to thereby help issue alerts informing of probable riot formation, preparation for criminal activities, among other suspicious activities. Identifying such risks in advance has proven to be particularly important in periods of large social events such as the Olympic Games this year in Brazil.
The core contribution of this paper is to design a set of articulated algorithms, providing a systemic model able to process data from the network in order to: 1) Verify proximities (Pair Detection), 2) Group devices that are in proximity to each other in clusters (Group Detection) and 3) Record groupings duration and average amount of grouped elements (Risk Detection). Additional contributions are described as to the implementation and performance aspects of these algorithms. Such algorithms are applicable in other situations, e.g. animal groupings in forests.
The remainder of this article is organized as follows: Section II discusses related papers. Section III describes the problem of grouping detection and introduces the systemic model of the proposed solution. Section IV provides an analysis of the systemic model and the results from the algorithms in a simulated environment. Section V concludes this paper and presents possible further research.
I. RELATED PAPERS
Papers addressing geographic points processing and cluster identification are generally based on the search for the concentration of points by analyzing their distribution. However, they do not take into account the specific need of identifying individuals gathered at points that are within a minimum distance, which characterizes a meeting. Without such consideration, the concentration detected can refer to points separated by distances to the order of kilometers and not just a few meters, which is beyond the concept of a meeting or gathering of people monitored.
Liu et al. [3] addresses algorithms that identify clusters of objects classified into categories, considering purely geographical aspects or other associated attributes. It mainly discusses the "density-based spatial clustering" (DBSC) algorithm that identifies clusters by using both spatial proximity and attribute similarity. DBSC involves building proximity relationships between points obtained through Delaunay triangulation.[4]
Carlino [5] argues about the influence of the physical proximity of research and development (R&D) laboratories on the impact of knowledge in their area of concentration. For that effect, it compares the location of laboratories in the US territory with patent registrations in the same area, showing their connection. Then, it approaches a way to measure the extent of the spatial concentration of activities of laboratories and defines the cluster formed by neighboring laboratories considering a circle around each location point with an initial radius of a quarter mile. It then lists the number of points within the circle. As a result, many circles overlap thereby forming the cluster to be analyzed and compared with the registration of patents.
Whereas the DBSCAN algorithm [6] seeks to identify clusters with different kinds of geographical objects (points, polygons, lines, etc.). Each adjacent group in a given radius contains at least a minimum number of points, i.e. its density surpasses a given threshold, which makes clear that point to point processing is performed by using the relationship of distance between points as is also proposed in this paper. This paper proposes estimating the distance value in order to distinguish the idea of concentration of points from the idea of scattered points outside the concentration (noise).
The above papers, all the more so for being disconnected from the LETS issue, do not meet the requirements of the problem addressed in this article, namely: 1) They do not consider the evolution of the group over time by identifying the duration of concentration of points and the size (number of points) of the group, 2) They do not have a time processing threshold and cluster identification, and 3) some algorithms do not impose a minimum distance limit between points in the clusters.
On the other hand, the paper in [7] addresses issues of creating and maintaining a database in PostgreSQL with the PostGIS extension, which stores geographic data transmitted by sensors located in Italy. It describes the steps for creating the database and the necessary tables for geographic data demonstration and storage. This paper complements such analysis with more details on the database and implementation requirements in order to validate the algorithms presented here.
II. DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM AND THE SYSTEMIC MODEL
Given the collected GPS coordinates of monitored devices' points of presence in a network, such as that presented in Figure 1, identifying groupings that qualify as meetings is the problem for which this article proposes a possible solution, as described below.
A. The Problem
The concentration of such points in a geographical area does not necessarily indicate a grouping of individuals in a meeting from the viewpoint of people monitoring for law enforcement. For example, for certain concentration points in an area of the geographical space whose shortest distance found is 1 km it cannot be said that the monitored subjects are actually in a meeting although the concentration is even visually observed on the map. In fact, for two or more monitored subjects to be considered together in a group, there must be a minimum distance established between the points representing them.
