I had missed this thread but this is what I have just posted Apr 2, 2008

I know (and understand) the logic behind this question of not being able to bid on a job for which I do not meet all the requirements, but being prevented from seeing the outsoucer's info especially when you can only bid through Proz? I really do not get it. Preventing "no ideal candidates" from bidding would be enough and acceptable.

Therefore, I would like to be able to see the outsourcer's information all the same, just out of curiosity. In fact it is not through bidding that I get jobs, clients directly contact me via my profile.

My two cents.

Andrea

PS: Good to know I am not the only one...

Restrictions ignored and circumvented Apr 2, 2008

Hi Andrea,

Preventing "no ideal candidates" from bidding would be enough and acceptable.

Agreed in principle - the problem is that service providers frequently circumvent such restrictions: once you know who's behind a job posting, it's usually not difficult to find an e-mail address, and to submit an application regardless.

To give you an example, my company accepts applications via the Blue Board, subject to clearly-defined criteria, whereby specific experience is required and requested. About 10-15% of applications fulfil these criteria - the rest either didn't take a moment to read them, or plainly ignored them. Along these lines, I get applications for language pairs and subjects I don't cover.

For this reason, I stopped posting jobs at ProZ.com - given the recent change, I'm considering posting again.

Best regards,
Ralf

Suggestion: outsourcers can hide their details if they want to Apr 2, 2008

Would you still post jobs if you could choose whether your details are visible to all users or only to those metting the criteria for quoting? All you need is a box to tick: Tick this box if you don't want your details to be seen by people who don't meet your criteria - or something along these lines.

I, like many other people, like having more than one option. And I believe enough people have already expressed their concern about this recent change. In my opinion Proz should at least consider whether it is worth pleasing these users by introducing a simple additional change: a checkbox. If that's too much to ask I'd at least like to hear the reasoning behind it.
