Arabic term

غير قابل للتلون

Arabic to English Art/Literary Poetry & Literature
Hi everyone,

This is from a Palestinian novel I'm working on which revolves around a mother and daughter.

I'm confused how the verb التلون works in this context. Especially as then there is a play on words afterwards where the daughter tells her mother that the colours she wears don't suit her. Here's the sentence:

أحدثك عن أخطاء الثورات. تحدثينني عن جرائم الأنظمة. أحذرك من اعتناق أفكار طهرانية غير قابلة للتلون، تحذّرينني من ارتداء ألوان لا تناسبني.

Thank you!

Susan McMillan Aug 25, 2021:
A possible English idiom Admittedly, this is going very far afield, but there's the idiom "a leopard can't/doesn't change its spots." It's not about colors, but it is about appearances, and you might still be able to connect it to the wordplay about clothing not suiting the wearer -- after all, leopard spots are a print some people where!

Rigid / unchangeable

The phrase غير قابل للتلون here means that these ideas can't be changed.
Rigid methods, systems, etc are very strict and difficult to change
