English term

oil-paint poster

English Art/Literary Art, Arts & Crafts, Painting
I stood up and walked over to the wall without either window or door which was almost completely covered by an oil-paint poster advertising SHEHNAZ SAEED IN 'MACBETH.'

Is it the oil-painted original which was later reproduced as a poster, or a copy printed in such a way that it looks like an oil painting?

It's Pakistan in the recent years. The book was first published in 2005.

In what country is the text set? In many countries, advertising is still painted by hand, although not usually with oil paints.

hand-painted poster

Based on the country, I'd interpret this as a hand-painted poster and consider the "oil paint" as irrelevant if the subject isn't local poster techniques. In Spain one still sees hand-painted advertising on the walls of buildings. They are lovely. What no one told you about Pakistan, A hand painted movie poster ... -

agree Shera Lyn Parpia : Yes, I think this is very likely. I've seen many such posters.

Thanks Shera Lyn. My favorites in Spain are for "Nitrato de Chile" - done on paper, walls, painted on glass, and interpreted in hand-painted tiles:http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nitrato
neutral Nesrin : (More an agree than a neutral!) I'm familiar with these posters from Egypt as well, at least till the 1990s. I think it's likely that you're right, but I hesitate about the use of the word oil. I'll leave my answer there in case someone can tell us more

he wall without either window or door which was almost completely covered by an oil-paint poster advertising - doesn't sound like something that is sold via Internet for 19 USD.
agree K Donnelly : This seems the most likely based on the size.

Thanks very much, K. Donnelly. I think the size is the tip off.

Greetings and thanks, Jim.
agree Michael Wetzel : They also still do this at at least one movie theater/cinema in Berlin. "Oil" may be significant as an indication of an exceptional artistic aspiration ("oil" = like Old Masters) or irrelevant ("oil" = oil-based house paint).

poster reproducing an oil painting

These are oil-paint posters for sale from $19 - which I think indicates that they can't possibly be originals

print of an oil painting / oil painting print

In UK we always say "print" when referring to a reproduction of an original on printed paper.
