English term

special delivery

Non-PRO English to French Bus/Financial Telecom(munications) Postal services
Context:

"The Post Office’s package delivery man attempted to deliver a **special delivery package** today at 10 AM, but since nobody was there the package was not delivered to you"

J'ai un doute ici: s'agit-il de recommandé dans un contexte français? Il me faut un équivalent et non une traduction exacte. Il faut que l'idée soit transposée dans un contexte français.

Merci!

Thank you very much Simon!

UK? Hi Estelle

As you probably know, in the UK, Special Delivery is the name of a specific Post Office service.

In your text special delivery is written without capital letters (i.e. special delivery rather than Special Delivery).

However, if this is a text from the UK, I think you can almost certainly take it as the Special Delivery service - the wording would be very strange for it to just mean a "delivery which is special". Indeed your text looks like a note that the Royal Mail would leave, or the tracking details from their website.

Characteristics of the UK Special Delivery are:
- guaranteed delivery date
- requires a signature from recipient

As you don't need a precise translation, I suspect in your context it is very much like receiving a card from La Poste to say you had a package (express and / or recommandé) requiring a signature (accusé de réception) but you weren't in.

If this isn't from the UK then ignore this!
