The caveats of a study will apply to this phase in terms of **confounding factors**: such as any imbalances in the risk factors that may influence and/or have impact on the clinical outcome of interest; biases: such as any differential data collection and/or different clinical practices in clinical outcome collection and evaluation; time-varying covariates: patients taking on various therapies for their diseases that may further erode any treatment effect that may result from the treatment phase of the study.

A confounding factor in a study is a variable which is related to one or more of the variables defined in a study. A confounding factor may mask an actual association or falsely demonstrate an apparent association between the study variables where no real association between them exists. If confounding factors are not measured and considered, bias may result in the conclusion of the study.

agree Pavel Venediktov : Я правда переводил как *мешающий фактор*, поскольку *вмешивающиеся* факторы по сути мешают выявить влияние изучаемых факторов.
