French term
démarrage sportif
French to English
Tech/Engineering
Automotive / Cars & Trucks
Hi,
I have this term occuring frequently in my document (PPT). Here are a few instances of usage.
Description du démarrage sportif avant – Application
Les sollicitations générant le plus de couple sur la SMO sont : démarrages sportifs avant et arrière (cas incidentels), et échappement de pédale (cas accidentels) pour les BVM
When I googled for "demarrage sportif", I found this:
> On ne doit pas avoir la même définition... Chez moi un démarrage "sportif"
> c'est un embrayage rapide suivi d'un passage brusque de la seconde, le tout
> à 10 km/h... Je ne vois vraiment pas ce qui peut causer un accident !
okok
demarrage sportif j'y voyait plus un Fangio du feu rouge ;-)
Please help.
Thanks

fast/sudden clutch release
Of course this means a definition is hardly necessary!
Seems clear from context that this is when one lets the clutch (pedal) out too quickly, resulting in immediate transmission of power to the wheels, and thence a sudden jerk forward or back (in 1st or reverse only; with the other gears, being longer, and the car being in movement, the "jerk" will "damp out").
In one case (incidentel) it is when the driver intends to let the clutch out but does so too quickly; the second case (accidental) is when your foot slips off the clutch pedal.
If you do any of the above with your foot on the accelerator (e.g. if, while sitting at the lights with your foot on the clutch, the box in first, and your foot hovering over the accelerator, someone hits you from behind, your left foot can slip off the clutch and your right foot hits the accelerator to the floor and you go canonning across the intersection leaving a track of burning rubber ...)
All the above for a manual gearbox, of course. I assume that an automatic gearbox somehow manages to produce the same results. Can't think of a generic. Fast clutch engagement??
That is the only thing I can see affecting torque at the "SMO", whatever that is.

Thanks. Your explanation is very good. I found a ProZ answer for a similar question in German. I don't know German so I don't know if this is the same. http://www.proz.com/kudoz/689942 |

SMG 1 does not have launch control, it has a feature known as racing start. You hold the lever forward in first, rev it to about 3k and let the lever go. This has the same effect as dumping the clutch on a traditional manual car. SMGII has launch control and it works in a similar vein except it controls the amount of wheel spin which SMG1 doesn't.
