Académie de Caen, centre de Montréal

French to English Social Sciences Education / Pedagogy diplomas/degrees
Baccalauréat français - option sciences économiques
- Brevet d'étude du premier cycle du second degré

Diplômes délivrés par l'Académie de Caen, centre de Montréal

Faculté de Droit, Université de Montréal

This is the "education" section of a Fr-Canadian CV and I cannot find the website of "l'Académie de Caen" in Montréal. Of course, I know there is Caen in France - is this a branch? or a separate school?

any help appreciated - I am stumped
thanks in advance (rather urgent, I'm afraid)

or written examinations…. In certain cases, it is our students who must travel, to Montreal, for some of the rarer subjects. In turn, our own teachers are sometimes called upon to administer oral examinations in Ottawa or Montreal, and to receive papers

Brigitte Albert (X) Apr 14, 2006:
finally I found a link that might help: Each year, almost 600000 students sit these demanding exams, which are administered in more than 3800 lycées in France, and 70 examination centres in other ...

Drmanu49 Apr 13, 2006:
Brigitte your link is very helpful and might explain a possible Bac taken in the Montreal "center". But no Mention of the BEPC which is French "Collège" level (junior high level).
Brigitte Albert (X) Apr 13, 2006:
Rita this website explains how A. de C. works together with schools outside of France http://72.14.203.104/search?q=cache:GP44Lti51uUJ:www.lft.ca/...
Brigitte Albert (X) Apr 13, 2006:
Collège Stanislas and other collèges are often private schools (K-12) which are either in the French or English school systems. Stan provides the exact same curriculum as in France;
Brigitte Albert (X) Apr 13, 2006:
There are schools in Montreal (and elsewhere) which grant the French bac because they teach the curriculum from the French school system; I suspect the A. de C. has a centre for administering the bac exams here in Montreal
sarahl (X) Apr 13, 2006:
Rita, I just googled lycées français canada and it turns out the 2 so-called collèges in Montreal are really K-12, go figure!
Drmanu49 Apr 13, 2006:
Probably because the next degrees were delivered by the Montréal Faculté de droit.
RHELLER (asker) Apr 13, 2006:
then why does it say "diplômes délivrés par ....centre de Montréal?
Drmanu49 Apr 13, 2006:
That is exactly what I think, that this person went to Canada after completing French secondary studies in Académie de Caen.
sarahl (X) Apr 13, 2006:
Rita, académie de Caen is in France, ergo it delivers French degrees.
RHELLER (asker) Apr 13, 2006:
I am confused. To DrManu: are you suggesting Academie de Caen diplomas are from France, not Canada?
Brigitte Albert (X) Apr 13, 2006:
Rita, the Académie de Caen seems to have an affiliation with schoos outside of France. I found a school in Toronto, there must be a school in Montreal with the same affiliation. Will look further into it...
RHELLER (asker) Apr 13, 2006:
I appreciate you taking the time to answer, LB Mas but my understanding was the plural was used to refer to 1) bac francais and 2) brevet d'etude
I am interested to hear the opinions of others, thanks.

Caen school district, Montreal exam center

Rita, French schools abroad are part of a French school district, my bac was with such a school with académie de Bordeaux.
Also, when they only have a handful of French schools in that country, one of those (or more) is used as a centre d'examen, meaning all the kids in that country or area have to take their exams in that one school vs their own.

agree Elizabeth Lyons : Makes sense to me.

thanks Elizabeth
agree John Peterson : As another example, I think the French Lycée in London comes under the académie de Lille
1 hr
thanks for the confirmation, John
disagree Drmanu49 : But there are only 3 private French Collèges in Montréal no "lycée" and none are affiliated with Académie de Caen
3 hrs
she didn't say *when* the degrees were conferred.
disagree Brigitte Albert (X) : There must be an exam centre that tests students for the bac that is granted by the A. de C. for people having taken the exam in Montreal

I don't think that's the way it works, based on my experience.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "I used "Académie de Caen, Montreal center" and the client seems satisfied. Thanks, Sarahl and Brigitte - these are difficult to sort out and I appreciate everyone's help."

2 separate schools

Since the cv mentions "diplômes" au pluriel, I think it's simply listing both schools.

BEPC et Bac Académie de Caen 14000, Diplome X de droit Faculté de Droit, Université de Montréal

As far as I know after searching, there is no agreement between the "Académie de Caen" and Montréal.
So the person probably got his BEPC and Baccalauréat français in "Académie de Caen"
-then went on to study law at "Faculté de Droit, Université de Montréal".

disagree sarahl (X) : surprise surprise! the so-called collèges in Montreal are actually K to 12. http://lesrapports.ladocumentationfrancaise.fr/BRP/054000055...'lyc%C3%A9es%20fran%C3%A7ais%20canada'

No surprise at all Sarah; It was exactly my point, they are not affiliated to Caen
neutral Brigitte Albert (X) : Some schools are in fact affiliated with the A. de Caen, see note above

I agree Brigitte, but I did not find Montréal.
