alone sounds fine to me, but I think that خليا here stands for متخليا عنه or خاليا rather than وحيدا. I also agree with Mr. Fuad's comment, this verse is poorly written, but you should keep the meaning however :)
Comment: "I'll stick to "alone", as Fuad said, I can't hurt the meaning anyway."
