Quando morre um velho tradutor
Sua alma, anima, soul,
Já livre do cansativo ofício
De verter
Vai direta pro céu, in cielo, to the
heaven, au ciel, in caelum, zum himmel,
Ou pro inferno – Hölle – dos grandes
traditori?
Ou um tradutor será considerado

Que irá descobrir de essencial
Esse mero intermediário da semântica,
Corretor da Babel universal?
A comunicação definitiva, sem palavras?
Outra vez o verbo inicial?
Saberá, enfim!,
Se ELE fala hebraico
ou latim?
Ou ficará infinitamente
No infinito
Até ouvir a Voz, Voix, Voce, Voice.
Stimme, Vox,
Do Supremo Mistério
Partindo do Além
Voando como um pássarobirdduccelopájarovogel
Se dirigindo a ele em…

Thank you, Ana, what a beautiful, clever poem!

I don't speak Portuguese (neither European, nor Brazilian), but I can read it a little, and I think I got what the poet says.

I can "hear" the music of the palavras. I really enjoyed this gem of a poem and I'm saving it in my special folder dedicated to poetry.
