Source text - Vietnamese Mùa thu, khi ánh nắng không còn gay gắt mà trở nên vàng óng như mật, những cơn gió không còn khô nóng mà mơn man dịu dàng, là lúc tôi tìm về với vùng biển yêu thích của mình - Phú Yên. Mùa thu phố biển rất đỗi dịu dàng và lãng mạn. Không khí mát mẻ, biển trời xanh ngắt, ngọn gió mang theo vị mặn mòi của biển khơi, nắng rải tơ vàng trên nền cát trắng dịu êm và sắc hoa tím thấp thoáng đâu đó khiến Phú Yên như một thứ men nồng nàn mà tôi say đắm.
Làng chài thuyền thúng Xuân Hải
Mỗi lần về với Phú Yên, tôi đều ghé thăm làng chài Xuân Hải thuộc thị xã Sông Cầu. Tôi đã đi qua nhiều làng chài dọc theo dải bờ biển từ Bắc vào Nam nhưng Xuân Hải là nơi tôi yêu mến nhất. Xuân Hải là nơi có nhiều thuyền thúng bậc nhất. Thuyền thúng ở Xuân Hải khá lớn, đường kính từ 2 - 3m, được điều khiển bằng máy và sơn màu xanh bắt mắt. Nhìn từ trên cao xuống, chúng giống như những chiếc ô tròn màu xanh xếp dọc theo bờ biển cong cong, trên nền cát vàng càng nổi bật hơn. Ngắm nhìn những con thuyền thúng tròn xoe, tôi luôn muốn thử cảm giác đứng bên trong, chao nghiêng cùng sóng biển tròng trành và chia vui cùng ngư dân khi thu được mẻ lưới đầy ắp cá.
Sáng sớm ở Xuân Hải, tôi thích đi bộ chầm chậm từ bờ biển, trên con đường bê tông nhỏ dẫn sâu vào trong làng, những ngôi nhà nép mình dưới rặng dừa cao vút, được bao bọc bởi màu xanh dịu dàng của biển và trời, đâu đó là tiếng lao xao của các bà, các mẹ, tiếng trẻ con í ới. Một khung cảnh mộc mạc, gần gũi đặc trưng vùng biển càng làm tôi quyến luyến xứ này.
Hải đăng Mũi Điện
Trong một buổi sáng mùa thu, nếu bạn muốn đón những tia nắng đầu tiên sớm nhất cả nước thì hãy tới ngọn hải đăng Mũi Điện hay còn có tên gọi là hải đăng Đại Lãnh. Khoảnh khắc đứng trên ngọn đồi lộng gió, xung quanh bốn bề là biển và trời, ráng đỏ chiếu rọi khắp bầu trời và rồi tia nắng vàng như mật bắt đầu chiếu xuống bờ biển, ngọn núi khiến cảnh vật sáng bừng lộng lẫy, thật kinh ngạc và tràn đầy mê say. Hải đăng Mũi Điện do người Pháp xây dựng từ năm 1890 với diện tích hơn 300m2, sau 55 năm chiếu sáng thì dừng hoạt động cho đến năm 1961. Do hoàn cảnh lịch sử, đến tận năm 1995, hải đăng Mũi Điện mới được vận hành trở lại với ánh sáng có thể chiếu xa tới 27 hải lý để chỉ dẫn cho tàu thuyền ngoài khơi.
Ngay dưới chân của ngọn hải đăng là bãi Môn tuyệt đẹp, nằm giữa hai rìa núi vươn dài, tạo thành một bờ biển cánh cung tránh được gió lớn và hết sức nên thơ. Bãi biển cát trắng mịn được bao bọc bởi núi non, rừng xanh, bên cạnh là một con suối chảy róc rách. Bãi Môn còn rất hoang sơ và gần như không có người qua lại. Không có bất cứ dịch vụ nào ở đây, vì vậy đây là điểm yêu thích của rất nhiều người ưa thích thiên nhiên nguyên sơ.
Bãi Xép thơ mộng
Những ai đã từng xem bộ phim “Tôi thấy hoa vàng trên cỏ xanh” chắc hẳn đều có ấn tượng sâu sắc với khung cảnh của bãi Xép bình yên và trữ tình đến nao lòng. Còn những ai chưa xem phim thì nếu tới bãi Xép sẽ trầm trồ trước vẻ đẹp nơi đây. Tọa lạc tại xã An Chấn, huyện Tuy An cách thành phố Tuy Hòa khoảng 14km về hướng bắc, bãi Xép vẫn giữ vẻ đẹp nguyên sơ, hiền hòa như chính con người nơi đây. Đặc sản của bãi Xép là ngọn đồi cỏ xanh tít tắp, những cây xương rồng bàn chải và hoa vàng dại nhỏ li ti, là bờ đá đen với những con sóng đua nhau vỗ vào đá trắng xóa như những dải lụa. Tôi đi bộ dọc theo những gành đá, thả hồn mình trong sự mênh mông vô tận của biển trời, tận hưởng không khí mùa thu trong trẻo mà lãng mạn. Mọi ưu tư như tan biến cùng trời mây, non nước, chỉ còn lại tình yêu với biển cả bao la.
Translation - English Autumn, when the scorching gazes of the sun become gleaming beams of gold, and the summer haze mellows into whispering breezes, is when I find my way back to my favorite seaside town – Phu Yen. The cool autumn breezes bring forth a calming and romantic vibe, as well as the briny saltiness of the vast jade sea. The clear blue sky, with rays of sunshine scintillating on the glistening sand, and the shrinking violets, hidden from plain view, have made Phu Yen an irresistible charm that lulls me to tranquility.
Xuân Hải Guffa Fishing Village
Each time I visit Phu Yen, I always make my detour to Xuan Hai Fishing Village in Song Cau Commune. I have had the chance to pass by many fishing villages along the North-South coast, but Xuan Hai is where my heart lies. This is the village with the most guffas. Xuan Hai guffas are rather large, boasting a diameter of 2-3m. They are powered by an electric motor and painted in blue. From above, they resemble blue umbrellas lined along the coast. The glistening yellow sand makes them all the more vibrant and vivacious. Gazing upon the guffas afar, I always dream to step inside, brave the coming waves, which rock the boat back and forth, and share the joy as local fishermen pull up a bountiful catch.
Early morning in Xuân Hải, I would enjoy taking slow strolls from the beach through the winding road that leads deeper into the village, where local houses hide beneath the foliage of towering trees, enveloped by the azure sky and the jade sea. Here and there echo the calls of mothers and grandmothers, mingled with the laughter of local children. This intimate and rustic image, with all the characteristics of a seaside village, has never failed to make my heart flutter for this beloved land.
Mui Dien Lighthouse
On an autumn morning, if you wish to catch the earliest sunbeams of Vietnam, then make your way to Mui Dien Lighthouse, also called Dai Lanh Lighthouse. As you stand atop the windswept hill, surrounded by nothing but Sea and Sky, the red haze of dawn sleepily lights up the horizon, and the brilliant sunbeams shine upon the glistening sea, then the distant mountain. Suddenly, everything springs back to life, dancing in the autumn dawn. An awe-inspiring and exquisite experience indeed. Mui Dien Lighthouse was first built by the French in 1890 with a total area of 300m2. It stopped its operation in 1961, after 55 years of service. Due to historical reasons, it was not until 1995 that the lighthouse went back into service, with its light capable of illuminating up to 27 nautical miles to guide distant ships to safety.
Right at the foot of the lighthouse is Mon Beach, which is sandwiched between two overreaching headlands. The beach features an idyllic look and a crescent shape that protects it from strong winds. It is surrounded by mountains, forests, and a stream that runs through it. Mon Beach is still an undeveloped beach with all its natural splendor intact and very little traffic, making it a favorite spot for tourists who enjoy natural destinations.
The dreamy Xep Beach
Those who have watched “Yellow Flowers on the Green Grass” must have been deeply impressed by the romantic and serene Xep Beach. Those who have not will be dumbfounded by its amazing look. Located at An Chan Commune, Tuy An District, which is about 14 kilometers north of Tuy Hoa City, Xep Beach still retains its natural and rustic charm, like the people who grow up with it. The unique landscape here includes unending grassy hills, cacti and petite yellow wildflowers, set among the backdrop of black granite cliffs washed by crashing waves that resemble silken scarves. I take a stroll along the rock columns, letting myself drift aimlessly amidst the vastness of Sea and Sky while enjoying the clear autumn air. All worries have seemingly been broken into pieces and vaporized into the azure sky, the breezes, the mountains, leaving behind only the naked love for the unending sea.

Source text - Vietnamese Sông Hồng trước đây vẫn được gọi bằng cái tên sông Cái, đồng nghĩa với sông lớn, sông mẹ. Dòng chảy sông Hồng đã tạo nên diện mạo Hà Nội cả về cảnh quan lẫn chính tên gọi của thành phố, vì thế từ bao đời, con sông trở thành mối bận tâm, niềm thương nỗi nhớ của người Hà Nội.
Cái tên sông Hồng có lẽ mới chỉ phổ biến khi người Pháp nhìn màu nước sông mà gọi (fleuve Rouge), cũng để phân biệt với sông Đà là sông Đen (rivière Noire) và sông Lô được gọi là sông Trong (rivière Claire), hai phụ lưu chính của sông Hồng. Khúc sông Hồng chảy qua địa phận Hà Nội nằm chính giữa châu thổ tạo nên bởi phù sa của hệ thống sông này, vì thế lẽ tự nhiên là chốn tụ hội phồn thịnh nhất của vùng cư trú lâu đời của người Việt từ hàng ngàn năm qua. Một chuyến hành trình qua 163km của đoạn sông qua các quận huyện của Hà Nội cũng là một cuộc du khảo những sắc thái tiêu biểu của vùng văn hóa Bắc Bộ.
Dòng chảy mang trầm tích cổ
Sông Hồng bắt đầu chảy vào địa phận ngoại thành Hà Nội từ ngã ba Trung Hà, nơi sông Đà uốn khúc nhập dòng. Đây cũng là vùng đất cổ của người Việt từ nhiều thiên niên kỷ, nằm ở phía Tây kinh thành Thăng Long từ xưa được phân định là trấn Sơn Tây, còn gọi là xứ Đoài. Con sông Hồng chảy qua đất Ba Vì, Sơn Tây, hợp với núi Tản Viên, ngọn linh sơn của người Việt cổ thành một thế sơn thủy hữu tình. Ven dòng sông là những ngôi đình làng nổi tiếng đã làm nên danh tiếng vùng đất trong câu phương ngôn: “Cầu Nam, chùa Bắc, đình Đoài”, đó là những ngôi đình xếp vào hàng di tích quốc gia như Tây Đằng, Chu Quyến, Thụy Phiêu có tuổi đời cách đây 500 năm… Đình làng xứ Đoài, nơi tụ họp của cư dân, thừa kế cấu trúc những nhà sàn vùng bán sơn địa với hệ cột gỗ lim khổng lồ, sàn cao cách mặt đất để tránh lũ và côn trùng, hệ mái đặc trưng kiểu “thượng rường hạ kẻ” đỡ lấy lớp ngói đồ sộ với những mái đao cong vút lên như mũi thuyền trên đồng lúa hay dòng sông. Màu nâu trầm của mái đình bên con đê xanh mướt cỏ, dưới bóng cây gạo hoa nở đỏ chói, đã thành điểm nhấn dọc dòng sông mẹ.
Xuôi về hạ lưu, là vùng đất Phúc Thọ và Mê Linh hai bên bờ sông, nơi ghi dấu cuộc khởi nghĩa của Hai Bà Trưng năm 40 chống lại ách cai trị của nhà Tây Hán. Nếu bờ bắc thuộc huyện Mê Linh được coi là quê hương của hai vị nữ vương thì bờ nam có di tích Hát Môn, nơi hai Bà trầm mình tuẫn tiết khi thua trận. Ngôi đền thờ cổ kính nằm ở vị trí sông Hát, một khúc của sông Đáy hòa nước sông Hồng. Tương truyền, hai pho tượng hóa thân của hai Bà đã xuôi dòng sông Cái về đến địa phận làng Đồng Nhân ở nam vùng Đại La, tức nội thành Hà Nội ngày nay. Người dân đã vớt lên và lập miếu thờ bên sông, sau đó lập đền thờ lớn ở địa phận làng Hương Viên ở nơi cao ráo. Đây là một cụm di tích quan trọng bậc nhất ở Hà Nội, đồng thời quận trung tâm phía Nam nội thành đối diện sông Hồng cũng được mang tên Hai Bà Trưng.
Nội thành Hà Nội bắt đầu với địa danh Từ Liêm, cái tên Hán Việt của Chèm, một địa danh cổ. Ở bến Chèm trông ra dòng sông là ngôi đình thờ Lý Ông Trọng, một vị tướng tương truyền xuất xứ hai nghìn năm trước. Ngôi đình Chèm nổi tiếng vì kiến trúc bề thế kiểu nội công ngoại quốc, với những bức tường gạch nung già và những hiện vật quý thời Hậu Lê. Ngay cạnh đình Chèm là làng Đông Ngạc, tên nôm là Kẻ Vẽ, nổi tiếng là làng khoa bảng và giàu có nhiều đời, nhiều người đỗ đạt cao làm quan to. Làng Đông Ngạc ngoài ngôi đình Vẽ còn giữ được nhiều ngôi nhà cổ kiểu đại khoa truyền thống lẫn những biệt thự mang phong cách kết hợp Pháp - Việt.
Dải thành phố bồi từ phù sa
Khu vực Chèm và Đông Ngạc cũng từ lâu được giới trẻ yêu thích vì những bãi tre ngút mắt chân đê, từ đây có thể nhìn ra những cây cầu như Thăng Long và Nhật Tân, hai cột mốc hai thời kỳ phát triển của Hà Nội ở thập niên 1980 và 2010.
Con sông Hồng đến đây đã từng uốn khúc tạo ra hồ Tây, nay dòng chính theo hướng tây bắc - đông nam, tạo ra một loạt những bãi bồi. Đây chính là đất của những làng hoa nổi tiếng: đào Nhật Tân, quất Tứ Liên, hoa Quảng Bá… Ngày nay, tuy đất trồng hoa đã thu hẹp lại, song ở những bãi bồi đã hình thành những khu vực “dinh đào”, nơi trồng loại hoa biểu tượng ngày Tết hay các địa điểm du ngoạn cho giới trẻ như bãi đá sông Hồng, bãi giữa chân cầu Long Biên, những khoảng xanh giữa lòng thành phố, một bối cảnh cho vô số thước phim và bức ảnh khác lạ cho Hà Nội. Những bãi sông bên tả ngạn như vườn nhãn Long Biên chân cầu Vĩnh Tuy hay doi đất Bắc Cầu nơi ngã ba sông Đuống đổ vào sông Hồng cũng trở thành địa điểm cắm trại rất được yêu thích gần đây của cư dân Hà Nội, nơi họ có thể ngắm hoàng hôn buông xuống trên đường chân trời đã định hình dày đặc những cao ốc ở phía trung tâm.
Mặc dù đã có thêm những cây cầu mới, song cầu Long Biên với chất liệu sắt đượm thời gian của 120 năm vẫn không ngừng thu hút du khách tới dạo bước và chụp ảnh. Ga đầu cầu đã không còn thuần túy một nhà ga nhỏ mà trở thành nơi chốn góp vào chuỗi điểm đến du lịch của Hà Nội. Nỗi hoài niệm và vẻ bàng bạc của khung cảnh phố cổ bên dưới những vòm cầu dẫn bằng đá khiến cho sông Hồng gần lại với phố xá, thay vì cách trở một dải đê cao.
Khúc uốn huyền thoại và thủy trình tương lai
Sau khi chảy một đoạn tương đối thẳng ở nội thành, sông Hồng bắt đầu uốn khúc ở huyện Thanh Trì. Dọc những khúc lượn này là những bến đò và làng nghề nổi tiếng, trong đó Bát Tràng đã nổi tiếng từ lâu với phiên chợ gốm của làng. Ngôi làng cách Hà Nội chừng 13km, đã xuất đi khắp nơi sản phẩm của mình từ bến sông quê. Xuôi tiếp dòng sông là những cụm di tích liên quan sự tích Chử Đồng Tử hay các địa danh chiến thắng thủy quân đời Trần thế kỷ 13 như Chương Dương, Hàm Tử… Trong tiếng gió dào dạt, người du ngoạn nhớ đôi câu thơ cổ Trần Quang Khải viết lúc khải hoàn về kinh thành Thăng Long: Thái bình nên gắng sức, non nước ấy nghìn thu (bản dịch Trần Trọng Kim).
Dọc các bãi sông là những ngôi làng trù phú, nối nhau bằng những con đường rợp bóng cây xanh và lộng gió, rất hợp để rong ruổi trên những chiếc xe đạp với những ai ưa vận động bằng đôi chân khỏe mạnh. Những ngôi đền, chùa ven sông của các ngôi làng kết hợp với bến bãi tạo ra một hệ thống không gian công cộng, như một diện mạo khác của thành phố, khoáng đạt và giàu tiềm năng. Thành phố đã đến lúc nhìn thấy mặt tiền mới của mình, quay lại với thuộc tính sông nước ban đầu làm nên bản thể. Một thủy trình thường ngày mà lãng mạn dọc sông hay một con đường dạo bộ, đạp xe kết nối các không gian xanh, là ước mơ năm tháng của người Hà Nội.
Translation - English The Red River was colloquially known in the past as the Cai River, which stands for the Mother River. The flow of this river has shaped the city of Hanoi, both its landscape and its name. For this reason, since time immemorial, the river has always been a source of yearning and of love for generations of Hanoi-ers.
The name Red River perhaps only became popular after the French started calling the river by its color (fleuve Rouge). This was also done to distinguish it from Da River, then called Black River (rivière Noire), and Lo River, then called Clear River (rivière Claire). Both of these rivers are the primary tributaries of the Red River. The part of the river that runs through Hanoi lies in the middle of a delta nourished by its silt-laden water, making it the most prosperous settlement in the thousand-year-old heartland of Vietnam. A journey along 163 kilometers of the river that runs through the quarters and districts of Hanoi reveals the most prominent characteristics and features of the Northern Vietnamese cultural region.
The flow of ancient silt
The Red River begins its flow into the outskirts of Hanoi from Trung Hà Confluence, where the serpentine Da River joins the stream. Lying west of Thang Long Imperial City, this area was known as Son Tay Town, also called Doai Town, and it was the heartland of Vietnamese people for millennia. The Red River runs through the regions of Ba Vi and Son Tay, twisting itself around Tan Vien Mount, the heart of the Vietnamese spirit, to create an evocative shan shui landscape. Dotted along the river banks are famous communal temples that popularized the land, as evidenced in the saying: “Southern bridges, Northern pagodas, and Doai’s communal temples”. These are communal temples that have been designated national heritages: Tay Dang, Chu Quyen, and Thuy Phieu, which were built 500 years in the past. The Doai communal temple, where villagers used to gather around, featured prominent structural elements from stilt huts of semi-highland regions, with giant ironwood pillars, raised floor to avoid floods and insects, a unique beam system supporting a vast gable roof with characteristic eaves that arch upwards to resemble the bow of a ship sailing on the river. The somber brown color of the communal temple underneath the shade of the crimson red cotton tree, along with the lush green of the nearby dike, are the focal point on the banks of the mother river.
Downstream the river is the lands of Phúc Thọ and Mê Linh on either bank, where the Trung Sisters Rebellion against the Western Han Dynasty took place. The northern bank is a part of Me Linh District, and it is the home of the sisters, while the southern bank features Hat Mon Ruins, where they took their life after losing the war. The ancient temple is located at Hat River, a confluence where Day River meets Red River. It is said that the sisters turned into two statues which flowed downstream the Cai River to Dong Nhan Village, south of Dai La Region, which is the downtown area of modern-day Hanoi. The locals picked up the statues and created a shrine by the side of the river, before building a larger temple at Huong Vien Village, a high ground. This is one of the most important landmarks in Hanoi, and the central southern district of Hanoi, located directly opposite the Red River, is also called Hai Ba Trung District.
The central districts of Hanoi began with Tu Lie, the Sino-Vietnamese name for Chem, an ancient locale. Located on the shore of Chem and facing the river is a temple of Ly Ong Trong, an exceptional general said to have been born two thousand years ago. The communal temple of Chem is popular for its imposing and impressive architecture, with ancient brick walls and precious artifacts dating back to the Later Le Dynasty. Right next to the Chem communal temple is the village of Dong Ngac, also known as Ke Ve, which is popular for having given birth to prodigies, who went on to become rich and powerful magistrates. Aside from the communal temple of Ve, Dong Ngac Village also preserves numerous old traditional Vietnamese houses as well as Franco-Vietnamese villas.
A city nourished by silt
The Chem and Dong Ngac areas have long been a hotspot among youths due to the bamboo groves at the foot of the dyke, a spot where you can cast your eyes upon the bridges such as Thang Long Bridge and Nhat Tan Bridge, two milestones of Hanoi’s two distinct growth periods in the 80s and the 2010s.
Here, the Red River twisted and turned to create West Lake, and its main northwest-southeast stream is creating floodplains. This is the land of popular florist-grower artisan villages: Nhat Tan peach blossoms, Tu Lien kumquats, Quang Ba flowers, etc. Nowadays, even as arable land for flowers is shrinking, these floodplains have developed entertainment parks, where iconic Tet flowers are grown. These parks, which include Red River Stone Garden and the space beneath Long Bien Bridge, form green areas amidst the city, where youths meander about, creating a unique background for films and a different scenery for Hanoi. The left bank of the Red River, which includes Long Bien Longan Garder at the foot of Vinh Tuy Bridge or Bac Cau Peninsula, where the Duong River meets Red River, is also favorite camping spot for Hanoi-ers, as they can watch the sun setting upon the dense skyline packed with high-rises in the downtown area.
Though there have been new bridges, Long Bien Bridge, with its 200-year-old time-washed iron beams, has never stopped attracting tourists who wish to wander around or take pictures. The station at the start of the bridge is no longer just a train station but also a popular tourist destination. The quaint and sepia look of the old town beneath the stone arches ties up the Red River with the streets instead of setting them apart.
The legendary bends and the flow of future
After following a rather straight course through the city, the Red River starts bending at Thanh Tri Village. Situated along this bend are ferry ports and popular artisan villages, including the world-famous Bat Trang Village and its open-air market. The village is located 13 kilometers from Hanoi, and it exports its prize products from its homeport. Further down the river are landmarks from the tales of Chu Dong Tu, or the famous battlefields from the Tran Dynasty such as Chuong Duong or Ham Tu. As the wind blows, wanderers are often reminded of the poetic verses written by Tran Quang Khai during his return to Thang Long Imperial City: In peace, strive for greatness; Thy Land shall outlast the sun.
Along the banks of the river are affluent villages connected by shaded and windy paths, the perfect biking trails for those with stamina. The temples and pagodas of all the villages by the river, combined with the banks, create a system of public spaces, forming a different aspect of the city, free and full of potential. It is time for the city to awaken its new potential and return to its roots among the rivers, which shaped its entire being. A romantic everyday cruise along the river, or a bicycle trail running along with it, connecting green spaces on its path, is the lifelong dream of many local Hanoi-ers.
