In developing a 2D HEC-RAS model, it was necessary to first delineate the model boundary.
The model boundary was then used to define the model grid, with a 150m model mesh spacing selected to maximise spatial detail while limiting unnecessary model complexity.
The computational model mesh is the primary element making up the HEC-RAS 2D model.
This mesh contains the data about the terrain of the underlying elevation data, the presence of linear features and surface roughness.

Sous-maillage is the word I'm familiar with from my translation experience in geographical and structural modelling and is what is wanted here, I feel.

Le nombre de mailles en travers est fixé à six pour une largeur à pleins bords de 18 m environ, de manière à représenter précisément le profil en travers du lit, tout en gardant un nombre d’éléments limités grâce à cette disposition particulière. Ce premier maillage peut ensuite être intégré dans le maillage général en tant que sous-maillage.

Sous maille
"Sous maille" refers to a smaller division of a grid model. I've attached a french hydraulics paper where the term gets used.
