Spanish term or phrase: deglución fraccionada
Hello,

I need some help. I'm struggling with the construction "deglución fraccionada en 2 a 3 tiempos" in an imaging report. Here's the context:

Se prueba con consistencias líquidas hasta sólidas como agua, jugo, puré y galleta apreciándose presencia de deglución fraccionada en 2 a 3 tiempos especialmente con consistencias más sólidas.

I'm not sure if "fractionate deglutition" would be an option, and I don't quite get the idea of "2 a 3 tiempos". Is it referring to the phases of deglutition?

Thanks in advance!
Emilia

Explanation:
"Son signos de alteración de la deglución el sello labial alterado con emisión de alimento fuera de la cavidad oral, deglución oral fraccionada requiriendo deglutir el bolo en fragmentos, y presencia de residuo faríngeo tras la deglución."

"...the percentage of patients with OD (a mixture of ENT diseases, neurodegenerative diseases older people and post-stroke patients) showing post-swallow pharyngeal residue was seen to increase as bolus viscosity increased; likewise, an increase in fractional swallowing was also noted secondary to this residue."

"Impaired efficacy of swallow is identified by the presence of any of the following clinical signs during the test: Oral residue, impaired labial seal, fractional swallow, or pharyngeal residue."

It seems to refer to the swallowing of the bolus in stages.

agree  Isabelle Villancher: Lots of references for "multiple swallows". Also quite a few for "piecemeal deglutition"

agree  Muriel Vasconcellos: Recently had this test. The video images show that the food only goes down after multiple swallows.

Explanation:
I think you have to look at the whole phrase, "deglución fraccionada en 2 a 3 tiempos", which neither of the previous answers does.
