Spanish term or phrase: preparado de arroz
A "preparado de arroz" in the document I'm translating is like a ready made meal, except you need to add rice to it and cook it in order to obtain the finished, ready to eat dish. So I don't know if "ready meal" would be the appropriate translation because it does actually contain all the ingredients in a bottle, except the rice, which is included in a separate bag.

Thank you. Rice kit is how I've described the item when it comes with the rice. However, for when there is no rice I've called it "cooking sauce for rice" (+ the name of that particular rice dish)

Asker: Thanks. It could work if the rice is included but the bottled "preparation" is also sold alone, without rice (you would use your own rice).

Similar foods, at least in England, are not called ¨ready meals¨ (which is used for those which come in a tray and go directly into the oven or MW).
When they come in a tin or bottle they are just labelled with the name of the dish.

Asker: Thanks. There are a few different "preparados" to translate so I was just looking for a way to say that concisely.

Asker: "Stew" makes it sound like you eat it alongside rice, not with the rice cooked in it... ?

OK just saw this rice is cooked IN the sauce? is that right? So then I'd just say

ready-to-cook rice or "prepared rice"

I say the rice is "prepared" since the amount needed for the dish has been packaged. (Has it also been seasoned?) In any case, the rice in the packet is the type that's suitable to be cooked in this prepared sauce (arborio or carnaroli rice?) so you don't have to go looking for other rice or measure it out. So yes, you can buy the sauce alone or with the packaged rice.

I don't think it looks like a "stew". The rice makes it look more like a risotto-style dish?

Hi Alexandra! For AmE, I'd suggest "rice mix" (see: https://www.breauxmart.com/shop#!/?q=rice mix). The one thing that's making me hesitate is that I have never seen a rice mix like this, with a liquid component.

More food for thought:

"Arroz meloso" makes me think of more of a luxury item. Don't you think that "ready meal" might cheapen it a bit in the eye of an English-speaking consumer? Also, that looks delicious :)

Edit: I like Simone's translation much better. After more research, and based upon https://www.americastestkitchen.com/recipes/13741-spanish-st... I'd now propose: "Kit for Spanish-Style Brothy Rice with...." (In this case, "Kit for Spanish-Style Brothy Rice with Pork Cheek".)

Asker: Thanks. Yes, ready meal would "cheapen" it a bit. Also, its not totally ready as it needs rice to be cooked in it before eating. And it is sold on its own (you have to provide the rice) or with a packet of rice included. (I'll edit my question as I've just noticed that!)

agree  ezpz: I also think this would go down commercially in that rice mix category. In the description/keywords, be good to add easy to cook, pork-based, rich creamy sauce mix with rice, or something that sounds nicer
