I think there are good options offered here (face up to, meet the challenge...), to which one may add tackle, approach, cope with, deals with.

Re. your context, in the first instance, 'si confronta con' states the purpose of the project (refurbishment of the castle). In the second, the verb means 'take into account' (the interior design had to be sympathetic to the historical fabric of the building).
That's how I read your snippets.
