English term or phrase: chloride
DETERMINATION OF CHLORIDE IN STEAM CONDENSATE (SPECTROPHOTOMETRIC METHOD)
Keywords:
Chloride, Boiler Feed Water, Spectrophotometric
Scope
Determination of the chloride content of steam condensate in concentrations from 0,1 mg/L.
A concentration of 0,1 mg/L of Silver (Ag+),Chroom (Cr6+), Titan (Ti4+), Bromide (Br-),
Iodide (I-), Fluoride (F-), Sulphide (S2-), Nitrite (NO2-),Cyanide (CN-), Thiosulphate (S2O32-) and tartrate have an influence of +10% on the chloride result.

Chemicals to be used:
Mercury(II)thiocyanate, Iron(III)nitrate
Methanol Dimethylsulfoxid
Nitric acid
Sodium hydroxide Sodium chloride
Work safely, especially with hazardous chemicals.
Use the guidelines of e.g. Safety Data
Sheets (SDS) or a local equivalent.
Principle
In an acid medium chloride reacts with mercury(II)thiocyanate to form undissociated mercury(II)chloride, during which reaction an equivalent amount of thiocyanate is released.
Reaction of the released thiocyanate with iron(III) to form a red-coloured iron(III)thiocyanate complex.
The extinction of the coloured solution is measured at a wavelength of 460 nm.

Russian translation:
Explanation:
