Spanish term or phrase: Siniestro o accidente
Hi there! Any suggestions on the following - I just need help on 'SINIESTRO'

SINIESTRO.- El hecho súbito, accidental e imprevisto ocurrido dentro del período de vigencia de la póliza, durante el transcurso de un viaje. El conjunto de los daños derivados de un mismo evento constituye un mismo siniestro.

The following being part of the text I'm translating, with the 'traffic' definition of accident
ACCIDENT.- An accident is considered to be any act that, as a result of a fortuitous, sudden and violent event, causes damage to vehicles in such a way as to render them unfit for driving.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Many thanks in advance - Wendi

claim

Explanation:
Although the actual meaning is closer to "disaster", "accident", etc., these words usually introduce shades of meaning not present in Spanish (for example, "accident" suggests nobody is to blame, as has already been pointed out).
For what it's worth, "claim" is what I've used in the past for several insurance-related documents (and "incident" for "evento"). It will normally work, although may need slight rephrasing.
e.g. "Documentación mínima en caso de siniestro" = "Minimum documentation necessary to make a claim".

Comprehensive insurance, collision insurance and liability insurance are the three components of an automobile insurance policy. State law requires drivers to carry liability insurance, but collision and comprehensive insurance are optional if someone owns a vehicle outright. If a person has financed the vehicle, the auto loan company might require comprehensive insurance. If the car owner has paid for the vehicle in full, and they can’t afford comprehensive insurance, they own an older automobile that
