En la página 41 de la referencia adjunta se explica que es un "stop gap" en este contexto. Pues este es mi intento

La referencia explica que en los conductos hechos de polietileno, se puede detener el flujo del gas por el uso de uno aparato que aprieta el tubo. El "stop gap" fija el límite de movimiento del aparato para que no dañe el tubo al ejercer demasiada presión. En defecto de un término técnico una mejor traducción sería "calibrado del mecanismo para detener el flujo" o algo por el estilo.
