Nakladem O. Pomeranza w Bochni c. k. gl.

Non-PRO polski > angielski Inne Historia From an old postcard - 1914
Could you please help me translate the following, it's from an old postcard, thank you. "Nakladem O. Pomeranza w Bochni c. k. gl. Skladownia tytovniu i gatunkow specyalnych. Nasladownictwo zastrezone." Sorry if I've misspelled something.

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

PRO (2): Darius Saczuk, Michal Berski

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

My (maybe educated) guess:
Fragment "Nakładem O. Pomeranza w Bochni" is the first sentence: Published by O. Pomeranz in Bochnia.

Fragment "c.k. gł. składownia tytoniu i gatunków specyalnych" is the other sentence. There's no capital letter in "składownia", that's why my try. Don't know why no capital letters in the second sentence at all.

Translation word by word:
c.k. = cesarsko-królewska = Imperial and Royal (as in mike23's answer). This prefix was common for company names in Austria at that time.

gł. = główna = main;

składownia = storage, warehouse;

tytoniu = tobacco;

i = and;

gatunków = literally: kinds, sorts; here: wares, commodities No idea what those "kinds" could be or whether this word regards to tobacco or not. Perhaps a better word can be found).

specyalnych = special.

My final try after all the reservations: The Imperial and Royal Main Warehouse for Tobacco and Special Commodities.

Hope this sounds as old-fashioned as should be ;-)

The entire sentence probably indicates the location of Mr. O (=Ozyasz?) Pomeranz's office or printing facility.

By the way: this postcard shows a view of "ulica Kazimierza W.", in full version: ulica Kazimierza Wielkiego = the Kazimierz Wielki Street.

Kazimierz III Wielki (Casimir III the Great), King of Poland 1333-1370.

For political correctness reasons (in the postcard issue year, Bochnia belonged to the Austro-Hungarian Empire), the "Wielkiego" was shortened to the single character.

The street still exists in Bochnia.

One more addition:
The third sentence is "Naśladownictwo zastrzeżone".

Naśladownictwo = literally: imitation, forgery. I guess Mr. Pomeranz could really mean "imitation".

zastrzeżone = literally: reserved. In today's language, I'd say in this context: prohibited.

I'd put the entire sentence as an equivalent for the present-time "Copyrights reserved".

"Gazeta Lwowska" (newspaper published in Lwów/Lvov), dated the 1st of May, 1919,
page 6, left side of the page:
under the title "Rozmaite obwieszczenia" (Various announcements):

Główna składownia tytoniu w Jaśle.... (= The main tobacco warehouse/storage in town of Jasło...).

My uncertainty whether "warehouse" or "storage" remains.
Something went wrong...
