Dutch term

PLR

Dutch to English Medical Medical: Cardiology
In a report into a patient's PCI of his RCA and posterior descending artery, it says 'rewiring PLR'. I can't find PLR being used for any vessel or piece of equipment in a PCI.
Does anyone have any idea what they mean?
Thanks

Discussion

Barend van Zadelhoff Jul 20, 2013:
You mean as opposed to the left posterolateral from the circumflex artery?

Your suggestion would imply 'posterolateraal rechts' in Dutch and then written as 'PLR'
Not very likely, would have been 'posterolaterale tak rechts' or 'rechter posterolaterale tak.

Anyway, in either case it would refer to the posterolateral branch/ramus from the RCA

I think they used the English acronym, I have seen this before in many PCI reports, often English acronyms are used rather than Dutch ones
You also mentioned 'rewiring' was written in English

For English acronyms in Dutch see also this abbreviation list:

LAD - Left anterior descending coronary artery. Zie RDA.

ebell (asker) Jul 20, 2013:
Since the PCI is in the right coronary artery, perhaps the 'R' stands for 'rechts'?
ebell (asker) Jul 20, 2013:
Dutch to English Yes, the Dutch text has used the English word 'rewiring'. I had thought of posterolateral branch, but thought it was odd that the ramus would come at the end when it would normally come first in Dutch.
Barend van Zadelhoff Jul 20, 2013:
see above Dutch to English

Apart from this, ebell always asks Dutch to English questions :-)

What language pair is this? Dutch to English, English to Dutch, or English to English?

Possibly they refer to the Posterior Lateral Branch

They may have used 'Ramus' rather than Branch.

Posterolateral Ramus - PLR

rewiring the PLR

can you use this?

>**Aorta-D-PLCX-PLR**.
It remains a bit unclear whether 'D' stands for 'descendens' or
'diagonal'; PLCX= posterolateral (of) circumflex branch; PLR is probably
Posterolateral ramus
