I think you can translate it this way. It is the wrong use of "w swietle" in this context, but I think this is what they meant.

: The suggestion is okay, but they meant something different. The 'light' was of the fact of the Red Army's advance, not of the Red Army itself. That advance cast a new light on the military situation in Warsaw as perceived by the Home Army's leadership.
